Agriocnemis pygmaea, le Pygmy wisp<\/em> en anglais, est minuscule, il mesure dans les 20 mm et se dissimule facilement dans les herbes ; quand on le perd des yeux, il est souvent difficile \u00e0 retrouver, m\u00eame avec les 4 paires d’yeux de notre \u00e9quipe.
On l’identifie \u00e0 ses 3 derniers segments rouges, mais surtout \u00e0 ses appendices anaux courts, en crochet, ce que l’on voit \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s correctement sur la photo ci-dessous. Ceci pour le s\u00e9parer de A. dobsoni, ceux de A. rubricauda sont plus longs et convergents \u00e0 leur extr\u00e9mit\u00e9. Mais on peut aussi s’aider du fait que ses pt\u00e9rostigmas aux ailes ant\u00e9rieures sont jaun\u00e2tres (ceux des post\u00e9rieures sombres), alors que ceux de A. dobsoni sont tous sombres, et ceux de A. rubricauda tous jaun\u00e2tres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il se plait dans les herbes, en bordure de mares, de marais ou m\u00eame de ruisseau ou de rivi\u00e8res lentes.


Ils peuvent \u00eatre parasit\u00e9s par des acariens, mais c’est la premi\u00e8re fois que je vois un si petit zygopt\u00e8re parasit\u00e9 par un dipt\u00e8re, sans doute un Ceratopogonidae du genre Forcipomyia. J’avais observ\u00e9 ce parasitisme sur un zygopt\u00e8re, en Malaisie, sur un Chlorocyphidae<\/a>.
Je me demande d’ailleurs si ce dipt\u00e8re n’est pas lui-m\u00eame parasit\u00e9 par des hydracariens (points noirs sur le c\u00f4t\u00e9 gauche du dipt\u00e8re)…<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

En restant simple, les femelles non matures sont spectaculairement rouges, elles deviennent androchromes (vertes et noires) et … sont rarement vues, en dehors des accouplements ; elles sont alors difficiles \u00e0 identifier avec certitude. Je ne sais pas comment on peut les s\u00e9parer des femelles A. dobsoni ou rubricauda, quand ces derni\u00e8res ne sont pas trop \u00e2g\u00e9es, si ce n’est par la forme du bord post\u00e9rieur du pronotum, concave en avant pour Agriocnemis pygmaea, comme on le constate ci-dessous :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais si ces femelles rouges sont dites<\/strong> immatures, cela ne les emp\u00eache pas pour autant de s’accoupler, mais elles sont beaucoup moins souvent choisies par les m\u00e2les (1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La bande ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rale bleut\u00e9e (comme les taches postoculaires) apporte certainement un \u00e9l\u00e9ment d’identification secondaire, car j’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 remarqu\u00e9 ce caract\u00e8re en Asie (ici au Vietnam<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span>
Agriocnemis<\/strong>, du grec Agrios- sauvage, vivant dans les champs et Knemis \u2013 jambi\u00e8re ou legging, comme pour nos Platycnemis Europ\u00e9ens. D\u2019ailleurs Selys croyait les genres \u00e9troitement proches au regard des tibias, ce que je ne constate absolument pas. Ceux des Agriocnemis ne me semblent pas plus larges que ceux des autres Coenagrion. Mais \u00ab\u00a0cnemis\u00a0\u00bb dans beaucoup de noms compos\u00e9s de genre doit plut\u00f4t \u00eatre compris comme \u00ab\u00a0faisant partie des Coenagrionidae\u00a0\u00bb.
L’origine du nom d’esp\u00e8ce (2) pygmaea<\/strong> est \u00e9vidente et Rambur d\u00e9bute en latin sa description en insistant sur sa tr\u00e8s petite taille.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est une esp\u00e8ce distribu\u00e9e dans le sud-ouest, le centre, le sud et le sud-est de l’Asie, le nord et l’est de l’Australie et les \u00eeles Salomon, soit une aire gigantesque, de l’Iran et Oman \u00e0 l’extr\u00eame sud-est de l’Australie.
Je l’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9e au Laos<\/a>, au Vietnam<\/a> et en Inde<\/a> (Rajasthan). <\/p>\n\n\n\n
