Austroepigomphus turneri est un des rares Gomphidae de notre s\u00e9jour en Australie en avril 2022 (nous ferons beaucoup mieux en d\u00e9cembre suivant) ; en r\u00e9alit\u00e9, nous n’en avons vu que 2, et ce n’est pas faute de les avoir cherch\u00e9s. Mais il a fallu se faire une raison, nous n’\u00e9tions pas \u00e0 la bonne saison…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aussi, les rares individus que nous avons rencontr\u00e9s ont eu un statut de star et ont \u00e9t\u00e9 mitraill\u00e9s sous tous les angles.
Ils se plaisent sur les rochers au bord du ruisseau \/ torrent, \u00e0 faible d\u00e9bit \u00e0 cette saison, mais j’imagine que les larves qui doivent passer la saison des pluies dans cet environnement doivent \u00eatre adapt\u00e9es aux forts courants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 gauche, l’environnement para\u00eet frais et sympathique ; oui, il est sympathique, mais pas frais, car \u00e0 ‘heure o\u00f9 sont faites ces photos (10 heures 20), il fait d\u00e9j\u00e0 plus de 30\u00b0. Vers midi, nous approcherons des 38\u00b0 C. Heureusement, \u00e0 la fin de la randonn\u00e9e (Amalia Walk) une superbe piscine<\/em> nous attendait.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Son nom local est  Flame-tipped hunter, qui souligne la couleur de feu des derniers segments abdominaux ; l’effet est percutant, associant un S7 p\u00e2le, jaune tr\u00e8s clair, avec 3 derniers segments orange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ren\u00e9 Martin d\u00e9crit l’esp\u00e8ce dans \u00ab\u00a0Les odonates du continent australien\u00a0\u00bb- M\u00e9moires de la Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 Zoologique de France – 14: 220\u2013248 [233].
Toute la description est tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9cise, la face, les dessins du thorax et bien s\u00fbr les appendices anaux.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure 43 mm pour un abdomen de 33 mm.
Il est end\u00e9mique d’Australie o\u00f9 sa distribution le limite au Nord ; Nord de l’Australie occidentale, du Territoire du Nord et du Queensland.

Dans Austroepigomphus<\/em> on retrouve Austro<\/em>, commun \u00e0 de nombreuses esp\u00e8ces Australiennes, du latin auster<\/em> pour Sud<\/em>.
Hagen in Selys ne donne pas d’explication pour epi<\/em>, mais il est probable que cela signifie proche de…<\/em> pour exprimer que ce genre (Epigomphus) est tr\u00e8s proche des Gomphus. Gomphus vient d’un mot grec qui signifie cheville ou boulon, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la forme de l’abdomen de la plupart des esp\u00e8ces qui ressemble \u00e0 une cheville pour assembler les bateaux (1).
Turneri fait r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 un Gilbert ou Rowland Turner, du Queensland qui a adress\u00e9 une collection d’insectes comprenant des odonates au British museum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En d\u00e9cembre 2022 nous avons rencontr\u00e9 \u00e0 nouveau l’esp\u00e8ce dans le nord du Queensland<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et cette fois-ci, nous avons eu la chance de trouver une tr\u00e8s jeune femelle ; elles semblent tr\u00e8s rarement vues !
L’identification se fait gr\u00e2ce au motif thoracique, mais elles ont \u00e9galement les derniers segments color\u00e9s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
