C’est dans une for\u00eat claire, \u00e0 quelques dizaines de m\u00e8tres d’une rivi\u00e8re qui s’\u00e9talait en large \u00e9tang, Parry Creek, que j’ai d\u00e9couvert cet Austrogynacantha heterogena (Aeshnidae). L’endroit \u00e9tait envahi de moustiques, insupportable, et nous avons d\u00fb rebrousser chemin une premi\u00e8re fois, pour chercher notre r\u00e9pulsif.
D’autres g\u00eaneurs<\/a> ont eu le bon go\u00fbt de ne pas se manifester. Et c’est en se reculant un peu en for\u00eat que nous \u00e9tions mieux plac\u00e9s pour surprendre les odonates \ud83d\ude09
Malheureusement sa position, en plus \u00e0 contre-jour, ne permettait pas de multiplier les angles de prise de vue. Et toutes mes photos sont mal expos\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Austrogynacantha heterogena m\u00e2le, Australie Occidentale, Parry Creek (Kununurra), 24\/04\/2022<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

C’est le seul individu de cette esp\u00e8ce que nous rencontrerons et je ne connais rien de son comportement, si ce n’est qu’elle est cens\u00e9e, comme de nombreux Aeshnidae, \u00eatre cr\u00e9pusculaire ; son nom local est Australian duskhawker<\/em>. Sa longueur totale est de 60 mm.
Son originalit\u00e9 est qu’elle est la seule esp\u00e8ce de son genre (monotypique).
L’esp\u00e8ce est r\u00e9pandue dans toute l’Australie, sauf l’extr\u00eame Sud-Est. On la trouve \u00e9galement en Nouvelle-Cal\u00e9donie.

Austrogynacantha : Austro (du latin Auster), pour sud. Gynacantha<\/em> est form\u00e9 de 2 mots grecs signifiant \u00ab\u00a0femelle ou femme\u00a0\u00bb et \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9pine\u00a0\u00bb soulignant l‘\u00e9pine<\/em> que l’on observe sous le 10\u00b0 segment abdominal des femelles des esp\u00e8ces de ce genre (ou plus exactement du genre Gynacantha pour Selys, comme on va le voir plus loin).
Heterogena<\/em> vient d’un mot grec signifiant d’une sorte ou d’une race diff\u00e9rente<\/em>. Car lorsque Selys a d\u00e9crit l’esp\u00e8ce sous le nom de Gynacantha heterogena depuis une unique femelle de sa collection, sa petite talle, ses marques diff\u00e9rentes et sa coloration lui semblaient bien exiger la cr\u00e9ation d’un nouveau genre ; cependant ce n’est pas le mode de fonctionnement de Selys de cr\u00e9er un nouveau genre \u00e0 partir d’une unique femelle qui pr\u00e9sentait finalement tous les caract\u00e8res essentiels pour faire partie des Gynacantha (1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De retour en Australie, mais cette fois-ci au Queensland, prenant mon petit-d\u00e9jeuner sous le parking du Motel<\/a> (nos exp\u00e9ditions sont cheap), j’ai eu la surprise de d\u00e9couvrir un Anax qui m’a tout d’abord paru mort, pos\u00e9 dans une des alv\u00e9oles de ce muret. Je ne sais pas pourquoi il s’est laiss\u00e9 saisir si facilement, il s’est tr\u00e8s mollement d\u00e9battu quand je l’ai saisi.
Nous avons fait quelques photos \u00ab\u00a0en main\u00a0\u00bb et je l’ai pos\u00e9 sur la haie qui s\u00e9parait le parking de la rue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La photo ci-dessus, \u00e0 droite, est tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ressante, car elle permet de voir le pore g\u00e9nital de ce m\u00e2le. C’est en effet une singularit\u00e9 des odonates que de produire le sperme sous le 9\u00b0 segment et de l’utiliser sous le second !<\/p>\n\n\n\n
