Cet Isostictidae est end\u00e9mique d’Australie-Occidentale, c’est un habitant des gorges o\u00f9 il colonise les mares, ruisseaux ou petites rivi\u00e8res. \u00c9tant tr\u00e8s localis\u00e9, il a re\u00e7u le nom de la r\u00e9gion qu’il habite, Kimberley, le Kimberley pondsitter.
Sj\u00f6stedt dans la description originale pr\u00e9cise qu’il mesure 35 mm, \u00e0 peine moins que son cousin A. fieldi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il fait partie de ces odonates tr\u00e8s rarement observ\u00e9s, et encore plus rarement photographi\u00e9s sur le terrain. Il semble se couvrir de pruinosit\u00e9 d\u00e8s sa maturit\u00e9, ce que nous n’avons pas observ\u00e9 pour Austrosticta fieldi ; il est vrai que les photos de ce dernier sont encore plus rares…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les photos des appendices anaux ci-dessus permettent de le s\u00e9parer sans aucun doute de son cousin A. fieldi ; ce dernier, s’il montre aussi des \u00e9pines internes sur les cerques, pr\u00e9sente un lobe interne, sub terminale, sur les cerco\u00efdes, alors qu’ici, ils restent de m\u00eames diam\u00e8tres jusqu’\u00e0 l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur mes photos, j’ai eu la surprise de trouver 2 \u00e9pines de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9 du bord post\u00e9rieur du pronotum ; il faudrait peut-\u00eatre plut\u00f4t \u00e9crire que le bord post\u00e9rieur du pronotum se poursuit lat\u00e9ralement, s’allonge lat\u00e9ralement en \u00e9pine. Ce qui est surprenant, c’est que cela n’est jamais mentionn\u00e9 dans la litt\u00e9rature, tant dans la description originale, que dans le guide (The Complete Field Guide to Dragonflies of Australia<\/em> par G\u00fcnther Theischinger et John Hawking) dont j’ai d\u00e9j\u00e0 parl\u00e9, et o\u00f9 la photo montre un sujet dess\u00e9ch\u00e9 et sans t\u00eate…
Comme les descriptions sont faites sur des sujets plus ou moins bien conserv\u00e9s, des mois ou des ann\u00e9es apr\u00e8s leur capture, peut-\u00eatre ces processus, tr\u00e8s fins et sans doute fragiles, se sont-ils bris\u00e9s…
Tous les sujets m\u00e2les en portent, pas les femelles.
Son cousin, Austrosticta fieldi, ne semble pas en porter, ou alors beaucoup moins visibles, mes photos ne me permettent pas de les voir (je rappelle que toutes ces photos sont faites sur des sujets non captur\u00e9s).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Je n’ai rencontr\u00e9 qu’une seule femelle, un sujet tr\u00e8s jeune, aux ailes encore brillantes, sans doute \u00e9merg\u00e9 depuis tr\u00e8s peu de temps. Elle ne montre pas de pruinosit\u00e9 bien s\u00fbr, elle est trop jeune, mais on remarque, comme pour le m\u00e2le, comme ce pronotum est long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On ne constate pas la pr\u00e9sence de prolongements lat\u00e9raux en \u00e9pines de part et d’autre du pronotum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On pouvait, avant cette photo, se demander comment nous avions identifi\u00e9 la femelle ; les tandems et les accouplements sont des chances \u00e0 saisir \u00e0 cet effet !

Austrosticta : On retrouve la racine latine auster<\/em> qui signifie sud<\/em> pour indiquer que ce genre tr\u00e8s proche alli\u00e9 des Isosticta<\/em> (Tillyard, 1916) est un sudiste (Australie\u2026).
Soror : du latin soror<\/em> pour s\u0153ur<\/em>, pour signifier que c’est une esp\u00e8ce s\u0153ur de A. fieldi (Austrosticta frater, \u00e0 l’Est de l’Australie, \u00e9tait encore inconnu) (1).
