Il n’a l’air de rien, mais c’est un moment fort de nos 3 semaines de prospection puisque nous sommes les premiers \u00e0 en faire des photos sur le terrain. Vous pouvez v\u00e9rifier, il n’y en pas d’autres avant celles de notre \u00e9quipe.
Il est vrai qu’il faut aller le chercher ; nous avons pass\u00e9 la nuit pr\u00e9c\u00e9dente sur le terrain de camping<\/em> le plus proche<\/a>, \u00e0 une dizaine de kilom\u00e8tres, un \u00e9tonnant camping, \u00e0 4 emplacements, sans eau ni \u00e9lectricit\u00e9, des toilettes s\u00e8ches tout de m\u00eame, mais avec de magnifiques barbecues, le bois mort, sec…, ne manque pas, il fait 37 ou 39\u00b0 C, depuis au moins 15 jours, les petites mouches sont insupportables…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jasper Creek est un affluent de la Victoria River, que nous croiserons plusieurs fois. Cette rivi\u00e8re, avec un tr\u00e8s faible niveau, est au fond d’une gorge. Nous y acc\u00e9dons, du c\u00f4t\u00e9 le moins pentu, avant 8 heures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et nous ne trouvons que peu d’odonates, \u00e0 mon avis, m\u00eame s’il fait chaud, il est trop t\u00f4t… Il ne faut cependant que quelques minutes avant de trouver une femelle qui donne espoir…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Espoir, car il est certain qu’on voit beaucoup mieux les odonates sur nos PC que sur le terrain\u2026
Il faudra prospecter presque une heure sur les berges avant de trouver un m\u00e2le, puis 2 autres, qui confirment l’identit\u00e9 de la femelle par la similitude du pattern thoracique.

4 Eurysticta sont d\u00e9crits en Australie ; ils s’identifient par leur motif thoracique, et celui, tr\u00e8s particulier de E. coomalie, ne laisse aucun doute. Il est peu, voire tr\u00e8s rarement contact\u00e9 et sa distribution le limite au nord du Territoire du Nord.
Nous faisons de tr\u00e8s nombreuses photos, malheureusement la lumi\u00e8re n’est pas parfaite pour le sujet cibl\u00e9 !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans The Complete Guide to Dragonflies of Australia, on lit que les appendices anaux sont bifides, ce que ne montrent pas mes photos, ni d’ailleurs le sch\u00e9ma figurant dans ce guide, ce qui est assez \u00e9tonnant. Avec de bons yeux sur la photo \u00e0 gauche ci-dessous, on remarque une dent sub basale sur le cerco\u00efde droit. L’\u00e9pine terminale des cerques est plus \u00e9vidente.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur ces vues rapproch\u00e9es, on note la longueur du pronotum, et le pattern bien particulier des marques thoraciques vertes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Malheureusement, comme on peut le voir sur ce que fixe les 2 photographes plus haut, tous ces clich\u00e9s de m\u00e2les manquent de la lumi\u00e8re du soleil…
Il mesure environ 32 mm, et se plait sur les ruisseaux, rivi\u00e8res et les mares riveraines des rivi\u00e8res.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Enfin un peu d’\u00e9tymologie (1) avec l’aide d’Ian Endersby et H. Fliedner.
Eurysticta ; eury<\/em> vient d’un mot grec qui signifie large et sticta<\/em> du grec \u00e9galement signifiant marqu\u00e9, tatou\u00e9<\/em>. Cependant, ici, sticta est une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la famille des Isostictinae (Isostictidae) cr\u00e9\u00e9e par Fraser dans laquelle le genre Eurysticta a \u00e9t\u00e9 plac\u00e9. Fraser insiste sur la largeur de l’abdomen des 2 sexes et le renflement additionnel du 9\u00b0 segment pour les femelles (je dois avouer que ce caract\u00e8re ne m’a pas frapp\u00e9…)
Coomalie se r\u00e9f\u00e8re tout simplement \u00e0 la localit\u00e9 o\u00f9 l’insecte a \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9 (et o\u00f9 nous ne l’avons pas trouv\u00e9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
