Gynacantha nourlangie est un des 2 Gynacantha pr\u00e9sents dans le Territoire du Nord. Il se distingue facilement de G. dobsoni par sa coloration terne, ses yeux bruns, parfois tr\u00e8s clairs avec le flash. Et le flash est presque toujours n\u00e9cessaire pour le photographier puisqu’il se pla\u00eet dans les grottes et les anfractuosit\u00e9s profondes, entre les rochers, et m\u00eame sous les ponts, ce qui ne facilite pas le travail…
Ci-dessous Chris est justement en train de photographier un des 2 sujets que nous avons d\u00e9couverts sous ce pont. L’odonatologie est une activit\u00e9 dans laquelle, si on veut vraiment s’impliquer, il faut savoir se mouiller \ud83d\ude00.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ils sont non seulement ternes, mais aussi mim\u00e9tiques, car les roches sur lesquels ils se posent sont souvent brunes ou rouss\u00e2tres et ils \u00e9chappent ais\u00e9ment \u00e0 un coup d’\u0153il rapide. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 une dizaine de jours sur les 23 de notre prospection, mais je pense qu’en raison de son aptitude \u00e0 se dissimuler, nous sommes certainement fr\u00e9quemment pass\u00e9s pr\u00e8s de lui sans soup\u00e7onner sa pr\u00e9sence.
On note la constriction de son abdomen sur les premiers segments et ses longs appendices anaux. On remarque \u00e9galement l’angle assez aigu \u00e0 la base des ailes post\u00e9rieures du m\u00e2le (absent pour les femelles pour lesquelles l’aile est arrondie) ; c’est un d\u00e9tail int\u00e9ressant pour distinguer m\u00e2les et femelles, car la lame supra anale<\/a>, tr\u00e8s fine, n’est pas facile \u00e0 distinguer si la vue n’est pas de dos ou de profil strict.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles Cave Duskhawker<\/em>, sont les copies conformes des m\u00e2les quant \u00e0 l’aspect g\u00e9n\u00e9ral, mais \u00e9videmment les appendices anaux sont tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rents ; il faut bien que ces femelles justifient leur appartenance au genre Gynacantha<\/em> (voir plus bas l’\u00e9tymologie du genre)

Ce n’est qu’en visualisant les photos sur l’ordinateur que j’ai constat\u00e9 que cette femelle est parasit\u00e9e ; c’est sans certitude, mais il me semble que ce sont des dipt\u00e8res, peut-\u00eatre du genre Forcipomyia. Comme la plupart des parasites des odonates, ils se nourrissent de l’h\u00e9molymphe (le \u00ab\u00a0sang\u00a0\u00bb des odonates\u00a0\u00bb) qui circule dans les nervures des ailes (que les anglo-saxons appellent fort justement des veins<\/em>) <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Si l’on arrive \u00e0 se d\u00e9placer lentement entre ces blocs de rochers, dans l’ombre, les Gynacantha nourlangie ne sont pas farouches et m\u00eame les \u00e9clairs de flash ne les effarouchent pas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le terme Gynacantha (1) a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Rambur \u00e0 partir de 2 mots grecs :\u00a0Gyna\u00a0<\/em>pour\u00a0femelle<\/em>\u00a0et\u00a0canta<\/em>\u00a0pour\u00a0\u00e9pine<\/em>, car les femelles de ce genre portent 2 \u00e9pines \u00e0 l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 du 10\u00b0 segment, ce qu’on voit tr\u00e8s bien quelques photos plus haut.
Nourlangie est tout simplement une r\u00e9f\u00e9rence g\u00e9ographique \u00e0 Nourlangie Creek, dans Arnhem Land (Territoire du Nord).
C’est une esp\u00e8ce certainement commune et largement r\u00e9pandue dans le nord de l’Australie ; nord de l’Australie-Occidentale, nord du Territoire du Nord et du Queensland.
