J’avoue tout de suite que cette photo d’Indolestes alleni (Small reedling) que j’ai trouv\u00e9e en mode \u00ab\u00a0paysage\u00a0\u00bb sur l’\u00e9cran de mon Pc devait \u00eatre en mode \u00ab\u00a0portrait\u00a0\u00bb. J’ai sans doute tourn\u00e9 mon appareil photo lors de la prise de vue, car jamais, ils ne se posent de cette fa\u00e7on (quoique…). Je l’ai laiss\u00e9e ainsi pour profiter de la largeur de l’\u00e9cran et mieux voir les d\u00e9tails.
La suivante n’est cependant pas tourn\u00e9e, mais peut-\u00eatre faite juste avant qu’il ne s’envole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lorsque Tillyard a d\u00e9crit l’esp\u00e8ce dans Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales<\/em> il l’a consid\u00e9r\u00e9e comme \u00ab\u00a0very rare<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0. Elle est probablement rare dans la r\u00e9gion de Cairns (je compte en faire l’exp\u00e9rience tr\u00e8s bient\u00f4t), mais elle ne l’est pas dans le Territoire du Nord, o\u00f9 nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9e tous les jours autour et au sud de Darwin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est certainement son habitat qui la rend difficile \u00e0 d\u00e9couvrir ; en sous-bois sombre, les photos sont d’ailleurs toutes faites au flash et son mim\u00e9tisme \u00ab\u00a0bois mort\u00a0\u00bb est bien efficace pour la dissimuler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son abdomen mesure 30 mm et sa longueur totale est d’environ 37 mm.

Nous avons vu \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s autant de femelles, qui sont tout \u00e0 fait similaires aux m\u00e2les pour les motifs thoraciques, qui permettent d’identifier facilement l’esp\u00e8ce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est une esp\u00e8ce end\u00e9mique, dont l’aire de distribution est limit\u00e9e au nord de l’Australie, et plus exactement au nord du Territoire du Nord et \u00e0 l’extr\u00eame nord du Queensland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong><\/span>
Indolestes<\/strong> ; du latin indus<\/em>, indien<\/em> + lestes<\/em> : les 3 esp\u00e8ces que Fraser a plac\u00e9es dans ce nouveau genre de Lestidae avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 collect\u00e9es en Inde. Lestes a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Leach (1815) et vient du mot grec \u03bb\u03b7\u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03c3 qui signifie voleur ou pirate, tr\u00e8s vraisemblablement en raison de la forme des appendices anaux qui \u00e9voque le coutelas courb\u00e9 des pirates.
Alleni<\/strong> : je traduis Tillyard : \u00ab\u00a0J’ai d\u00e9di\u00e9 cette esp\u00e8ce \u00e0 son inventeur, Mr. E. Allen, \u00e0 qui je suis redevable de sa collecte minutieuse d’odonates dans le district de Cairns\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
