J’ai observ\u00e9 cette sc\u00e8ne de pr\u00e9dation par Ischnura heterosticta pendant 37 minutes et la premi\u00e8re photo que je montre n’est pas vraiment la premi\u00e8re de la sc\u00e8ne. La femelle Austroagrion exclamationis \u00e9tait \u00e0 pondre sur ce n\u00e9nuphar, et j’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 surpris de voir litt\u00e9ralement tomber dessus un autre odonate ; j’ai cru \u00e0 un m\u00e2le venant enlever une femelle en ponte pour s’accoupler. La sc\u00e8ne a \u00e9t\u00e9 remuante, et les premi\u00e8res photos ne sont pas nettes.
Pendant 2 minutes, les protagonistes se sont d\u00e9plac\u00e9s sur plusieurs supports, mais le m\u00e2le I. heterosticta a r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 immobiliser la femelle A. exclamationis sur une petite branche morte au-dessus de l’eau (clic sur les photos).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les photos sont bien s\u00fbr dans l’ordre o\u00f9 l’action s’est d\u00e9roul\u00e9e.
Le m\u00e2le a commenc\u00e9 \u00e0 d\u00e9vorer sa proie, \u00e0 la partie toute ant\u00e9rieure du thorax, respectant semble-t-il la t\u00eate. Un Diplacodes bipunctata est venu se poser, d’abord derri\u00e8re le m\u00e2le, d\u00e9collant et se reposant plusieurs fois pour tenter certainement d’attraper des proies en vol, pour finalement venir s’installer juste devant le pr\u00e9dateur, comme s’il \u00e9tait int\u00e9ress\u00e9, lui aussi, par le spectacle ; j’ai m\u00eame pens\u00e9 un instant qu’il convoitait la proie.
Sur la photo ci-dessous \u00e0 droite, on remarque que la t\u00eate… ne tient plus qu’\u00e0 un fil.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et effectivement, quelques secondes plus tard, elle est tomb\u00e9e \u00e0 l’eau. Il a fallu exactement 9 secondes pour qu’un Gerridae, Limnogonus fossarum ssp. gilguy, vienne s’en d\u00e9lecter ; ils s’y mettront \u00e0 2 plus tard.
Le pronotum et la premi\u00e8re paire de pattes sont rest\u00e9s attach\u00e9s \u00e0 la t\u00eate.
\u00c0 droite, le thorax est compl\u00e8tement d\u00e9vor\u00e9, une patte s’en \u00e9chappe sinistrement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Au centre Limnogonus fossarum ssp. gilguy, Gerridae, d\u00e9vorant la t\u00eate d’une femelle A. exclamationis, m\u00eame lieu et date<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Ce n’est pas facile de manger un abdomen qui fait la 3\/4 de la longueur du sien en restant en \u00e9quilibre sur une branche ! Ischnura heterosticta, 34 mm, est tout de m\u00eame beaucoup<\/em> plus grand<\/em> que cette femelle Austroagrion exclamationis de 25 mm.
Le Diplacodes bipunctata est revenu, et comme moi, il a d\u00fb s’approcher pour mieux voir ce qui restait de la victime \ud83d\ude31 ; \u00e0 droite, dans les pattes ant\u00e9rieures de l’attaquant, il ne reste plus grand-chose, on devine parfaitement la valve de l’ovipositeur et son stylet brun fonc\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On ne peut que rester \u00e9bahi devant un tel app\u00e9tit ; la petite femelle A. exclamationis a \u00e9t\u00e9 enti\u00e8rement d\u00e9vor\u00e9e en 37 minutes, en tout cas l’int\u00e9gralit\u00e9 du thorax et de l’abdomen. Il n’y a sans doute pas beaucoup d’animaux capables de manger pr\u00e8s des 3\/4 de leur propre poids en si peu de temps !
La derni\u00e8re photo montre l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 finale de l’abdomen puisqu’on distingue, d\u00e9passant \u00e0 peine de sa bouche, 2 minuscules filaments qui sont les palpes de l’ovipositeur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
