Ischnura pruinescens (Colourful bluetail), le 3\u00b0 et dernier Ischnura d’Australie, est facile \u00e0 identifier : \u00e0 maturit\u00e9, il se couvre sur le thorax et les premiers segments d’une pruinosit\u00e9 blanch\u00e2tre qui lui donne son nom d’esp\u00e8ce. On le s\u00e9pare facilement d’Ischnura heterosticta qui montre un spot bleu sur les segments 8 et 9 alors que celui de I. pruinescens est limit\u00e9 au neuvi\u00e8me.
M\u00e2les et femelles semblent attirer particuli\u00e8rement les parasites hydracariens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette facult\u00e9 est li\u00e9e \u00e0 leur habitat puisqu’on le trouve sur les eaux stagnantes, mares, marais, \u00e9tangs et lacs.
Il mesure environ 32 mm, 25 mm pour l’abdomen.
Il faut noter que c’est un des rares Ischnura \u00e0 ne pas montrer de taches postoculaires p\u00e2les ; cependant \u00e0 maturit\u00e9 leur emplacement est occup\u00e9 par une large tache de pruinosit\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles sont magnifiquement color\u00e9es et m’ont fait penser aux Ischnura capreolus<\/a> ou ramburii<\/a> am\u00e9ricains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En Australie, sa distribution est limit\u00e9e au nord et au nord-est ; le nord du Territoire du Nord (et l’extr\u00eame nord-est de l’Australie-Occidentale) et toute la zone c\u00f4ti\u00e8re du Queensland. On le rencontre \u00e9galement en Nouvelle-Guin\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elles sont bien s\u00fbr capables de trouver des proies \u00e0 leur taille et c’est ici une tr\u00e8s jeune femelle d’orthopt\u00e8re qui fait les frais de son app\u00e9tit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En \u00ab\u00a0vieillissant\u00a0\u00bb les femelles perdent leurs teintes \u00e9clatantes et deviennent vertes. On devine n\u00e9anmoins des restes de la coloration jaune ou orang\u00e9e au niveau de la bande ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ischnura (1) vient du grec ischnos<\/em> pour fin<\/em> ou mince<\/em> et de oura<\/em> qui signifie queue<\/em>. Charpentier explique qu\u2019il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce nom en raison de la finesse exceptionnelle de l\u2019abdomen (sans doute en comparaison du genre Calopteryx, d\u2019apr\u00e8s Fliedner (2006), car elle n\u2019a, pour nous, rien d\u2019\u00e9tonnant en soi). Tillyard l’avait pourtant d\u00e9crit comme un Agriocnemis<\/a>.
Pruinescens, du latin pruinosus<\/em> pour glacial<\/em> avec le suffixe escens<\/em> signifiant devenant<\/em>, pour \u00e9tablir le fait qu’\u00e0 maturit\u00e9 le thorax est devenu couvert d’une poussi\u00e8re blanch\u00e2tre \u00e9voquant le givre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
