Austrphya mystica est la seule esp\u00e8ce connue de ce genre qui appartient aux Austrocorduliidae. Il est fin, avec un abdomen noir et un thorax vert m\u00e9tallis\u00e9, sombre \u00e9galement, alternance de zones vertes et brunes, dot\u00e9 d’une riche pilosit\u00e9. Il mesure environ 43 mm et montre une nervation l\u00e2che.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ses appendices anaux sont spectaculaires ; les sup\u00e9rieurs longs et sinueux, la lame anale atteint presque la moiti\u00e9 de leur longueur. Ils sont au moins 4 fois plus longs que le 10\u00b0 segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est sombre et vit souvent dans un milieu sombre ; les cours d’eau de la for\u00eat pluviale. Ici, pour les photos faites \u00e0 Ravenshoe, ce n’est pas vraiment en for\u00eat, plut\u00f4t un grand bois travers\u00e9 par un gros ruisseau tr\u00e8s encombr\u00e9 d’arbres et d’arbustes, avec des rives envahies de v\u00e9g\u00e9tation assez exub\u00e9rante, difficiles d’acc\u00e8s. Mais nous l’avions vu auparavant dans une zone plus d\u00e9gag\u00e9e, mieux \u00e9clair\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est donc rarement vu, d’autant que sa distribution est extr\u00eamement limit\u00e9e, il est end\u00e9mique du nord-est de l’Australie et on peut dire que la r\u00e9gion de Cairns est quasiment sa seule demeure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit par Tillyard en 1909 \u00e0 partir d’une femelle (\u00ab\u00a0On some remarkable Australian Corduliinae, with descriptions of new species\u00a0\u00bb, Tillyard, 1909), et il a fallu attendre 1978 pour que le m\u00e2le le soit \u00e0 son tour par Gunther Theischinger et J.A.L. Watson, dans Australian Journal of Zoology, \u00ab\u00a0The Australian Gomphomacromiinae (Odonata : Corduliidae)\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Austrophya est un compos\u00e9 du latin Auster<\/em>, pour sud<\/em> (plus exactement vent du sud), comme dans austral ou\u2026 Australie, et d’un mot grec signifiant stature<\/em> ou d\u00e9veloppement<\/em>, d\u00e9j\u00e0 utilis\u00e9 pour 2 genres apparent\u00e9s, Cordulephya et Neophya…
Mystica du latin mysticus<\/em> pour myst\u00e9rieux<\/em>, d\u00e9concertant<\/em>, ce qui s’applique bien \u00e0 une esp\u00e8ce difficile \u00e0 trouver, d’une famille longtemps incertaine et d\u00e9crit \u00e0 partir d’une seule femelle (1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
