Periaeschna magdalena a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit par Ren\u00e9 Martin en 1909 dans\u00a0Collections zoologiques de Edmond de Selys Lonchamps, Aeschnines (1). Mais, il s’agissait d’un sujet de sa propre collection qu’il avait captur\u00e9 justement au Tonkin, et comme moi \ud83d\ude09, il n’avait vu qu’une femelle. Celle-ci a \u00e9t\u00e9 captur\u00e9e \u00e0 Pia Oac<\/a>, en for\u00eat \u00e0 1315 m d’altitude.

Elle mesure 67 mm, 52 mm pour l’abdomen et 44 pour l’aile post\u00e9rieure. Comme toutes les femelles Periaeschna, elle montre un appendice fourchu, ou bifide sous le 10\u1d49 segment abdominal qu’on voit tr\u00e8s bien en cliquant sur la photo\u202f; j’en ignore la fonction, s’il en a une\u202f; peut-\u00eatre double-t-il le stylet sous S9 qui sert \u00e0 palper le substrat de ponte, ou a-t-il une fonction particuli\u00e8re pendant l’accouplement.

On le rencontre dans le grand sud de la Chine (Fujian, Guangxi, Hainan, Hubei, Jiangsu, Sichuan, Zhejiang), \u00e0 Ta\u00efwan, et au Vietnam, mais les citations dans l’extr\u00eame est de l’Inde, au\u00a0Meghalaya, seraient \u00e0 prendre avec pr\u00e9caution.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Periaeschna<\/strong>\u00a0(Martin, 1909), du grec\u00a0peri<\/em>, pour\u00a0autour<\/em>, qui induit, en pr\u00e9fixe, une notion de proximit\u00e9 avec ce qui suit, dans notre cas une parent\u00e9 avec les autres Aeshnidae. Aeschna est un cas particulier dans l\u2019\u00e9tymologie des noms d\u2019odonates. Il est ici \u00e9crit dans sa version\u00a0corrig\u00e9e, et on a en Europe, l\u2019habitude de l\u2019\u00e9crire sans \u00ab\u00a0c\u00a0\u00bb, la version de Fabricius (1775) qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le nom de genre Aeshna.
On suppose, car il ne l\u2019a pas pr\u00e9cis\u00e9, que Fabricius a form\u00e9 ce nom depuis un mot grec signifiant\u00a0d\u00e9figurer<\/em>\u00a0ou\u00a0ternir<\/em>\u00a0(pourquoi, c\u2019est une autre \u00e9nigme ?) ; mais Fabricius est un puriste et on ne peut expliquer cette absence de \u00ab\u00a0c \u00a0\u00bb que par une erreur de transcription ou une erreur typographique.
L\u2019absence de ce \u00ab\u00a0c\u00a0\u00bb n\u2019est rest\u00e9e la norme que pour le genre Aeshna et tous les \u00ab\u00a0compos\u00e9s\u00a0\u00bb l\u2019ont int\u00e9gr\u00e9.
Magdalena<\/strong> ; Martin ne donne aucune indication et on ne peut faire que des suppositions. C’est soit un hommage (latinis\u00e9) \u00e0 une de ses connaissances, soit il s’est conform\u00e9 \u00e0 l’habitude de l’\u00e9poque de donner des noms de personnages historiques ou mythologiques, peut-\u00eatre Sainte Madeleine en l’occurrence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
