Nous n’avons rencontr\u00e9 Aethriamanta nymphaeae, le L-spot basker, que sur un seul site : un large milieu humide de 90 hectares, et les individus que nous avons contact\u00e9s \u00e9taient dans une zone ouverte en bord d’\u00e9tang, difficiles \u00e0 approcher, mais avec un comportement pr\u00e9visible, qui les faisaient se reposer toujours sur les m\u00eames supports apr\u00e8s une tr\u00e8s courte chasse. Malheureusement le vent a compliqu\u00e9 les photos.
Son nom anglais L-spot basker est d\u00fb au fait que la marque fonc\u00e9e de son aile montre une forme de \u00ab\u00a0L\u00a0\u00bb : la base de l’aile est assez largement ambr\u00e9e, mais une zone bien d\u00e9limit\u00e9e et fonc\u00e9e forme un \u00ab\u00a0L\u00a0\u00bb. Malheureusement mes photos ne le montrent pas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il ressemble beaucoup \u00e0 son cousin Aethriamanta circumsignata, dont la zone alaire basale ambr\u00e9e est tr\u00e8s large et plus fonc\u00e9e, sans cette marque en \u00ab\u00a0L\u00a0\u00bb. Et surtout la face d’Aethriamanta nymphaea est claire, celle de A. circumsignata<\/a> est rouge.
Il mesure seulement dans les 30 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le trouve en Australie, dans le nord du Territoire du Nord, et dans tout l’est du Queensland, ce qui lui accorde une large aire de distribution. Il est \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent en Nouvelle-Guin\u00e9e.
L’accouplement et la ponte qui s’en est aussit\u00f4t suivi donnent l’occasion d’observer la femelle que nous n’avons pas rencontr\u00e9e isol\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’origine du nom de genre Aethriamanta (1) fait l\u2019objet de supposition ; Kirby l\u2019aurait cr\u00e9\u00e9 \u00e0 partir d\u2019un mot grec signifiant ciel lumineux<\/em> auquel il aurait rajout\u00e9 le mot latin amans<\/em> pour aimant<\/em>, le nom de genre signifiant alors \u00ab qui aime le ciel lumineux \u00bb.
Nymphaea est simplement le genre botanique auquel appartiennent les n\u00e9nuphars car les premiers sujets d\u00e9crits provenaient de Water-lily ponds, des mares \u00e0 n\u00e9nuphars.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
