J’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 Urothemis signata, le Scarlet Basker<\/em>,<\/strong> au Laos<\/a>, au Cambodge<\/a> et en Malaisie<\/a>, mais je n’avais jamais r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 en faire des photos vraiment correctes\u202f; mon exp\u00e9rience ne me permet pas de savoir s’il est vraiment difficile \u00e0 approcher. Il \u00e9tait au ici \u00e0 quelque distance du bord d’un \u00e9tang peu profond et m\u00eame s’il a pris parfois des poses peu satisfaisantes, \ud83d\ude42 on parvient \u00e0 reconna\u00eetre facilement les crit\u00e8res d’identification.
Pour la petite histoire, Pierre Rambur qui l’a d\u00e9crit en 1842 l’avait class\u00e9 dans les Libella, sans doute en raison des taches sombres de ses ailes post\u00e9rieures (et ant\u00e9rieures…) et de ses taches noires sur les derniers segments \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on de nos Sympetrum europ\u00e9ens.
Urothemis signata mesure dans les 42 \u00e0 45 mm, se pla\u00eet sur les mares et les \u00e9tangs comme ici \u00e0 Van Long<\/a>, et son aire de distribution est gigantesque, car elle s’\u00e9tend de l’Inde et du Sri Lanka jusqu’\u00e0 Hong Kong et au nord de l’Australie, en passant par l’Indon\u00e9sie… Comme souvent dans ce cas, de nombreuses sous-esp\u00e8ces sont d\u00e9crites et Urothemis signata recouvre certainement un complexe de sous-esp\u00e8ces, voire d’esp\u00e8ces bien valides.

C’\u00e9tait par contre la premi\u00e8re fois que je rencontrais des femelles\u202f; elles sont aussi belles que les m\u00e2les et la coloration alaire ambr\u00e9e, noire au centre ressort magnifiquement sur leur teinte g\u00e9n\u00e9rale plus claire. On note la succession de taches sombres sur l’abdomen, absentes pour les m\u00e2les\u202f; ces taches sont parfois plus larges, formant presque des bandes et leur donnent un aspect curieusement tigr\u00e9 (presque \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on des femelles Nannophya pygmaea<\/a>) .<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur une vue de profil de cette femelle, on aper\u00e7oit une caract\u00e9ristique du genre Urothemis qui est la lourde lame vulvaire sous le 9\u00b0 segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
