Nannodiplax rubra, seul dans son genre, est un minuscule Libellulidae, et dans sa description originale, Brauer<\/a> le mesure en effet \u00e0 23 mm. Pour mettre les choses en situation, la pi\u00e8ce europ\u00e9enne de 1 \u20ac mesure 23.25 mm. Ils ont d’ailleurs un aspect un peu curieux avec un petit corps qui porte des yeux \u00e9normes.
Je l’ai trouv\u00e9 tr\u00e8s difficile \u00e0 approcher, et m\u00eame s’il est commun, les photos correctes ne sont pas l\u00e9gion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il ressemble \u00e9norm\u00e9ment \u00e0 Diplacodes bipunctata<\/a>, qui lui aussi montre des marques noires sur les c\u00f4t\u00e9s de l’abdomen ; cependant, ce dernier montre aussi des points sur la face dorsale de l’abdomen (points qui peuvent \u00eatre discrets…) et ses pt\u00e9rostigmas sont rouges, alors que ceux du Pygmy percher, comme l’appellent les Australiens, sont noirs.
Nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 tr\u00e8s fr\u00e9quemment dans le Territoire du Nord, tr\u00e8s rarement dans le Queensland o\u00f9 je n’ai qu’une photo de femelle.
Sa distribution le limite au nord, \u00e0 tout l’est de l’Australie et \u00e0 la Nouvelle-Guin\u00e9e.

Les femelles Nannodiplax rubra, qui elles portent des dessins noirs sur la face dorsale de l’abdomen, sont encore plus proches des femelles Diplacodes bipunctata<\/a> ; elles sont quelques millim\u00e8tres plus courtes, mais sont plus trapues avec un abdomen plus large, et leurs marques lat\u00e9rales sur l’abdomen sont obliques et non parall\u00e8les au grand axe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’esp\u00e8ce accepte toute sorte d’environnement, m\u00eame si j’ai le sentiment de l’avoir surtout rencontr\u00e9 sur des eaux dormantes ou dans les portions tr\u00e8s calmes des eaux courantes, comme \u00e0 Rum Jungle Lake<\/a>. Curieux nom d’ailleurs pour un lac de baignade qui est une ancienne mine d’uranium…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ci-dessus une tr\u00e8s jeune femelle, sans doute du jour, vraiment courte et trapue avec de gros yeux. Noter comme son envergure, 40 mm, d\u00e9passe de beaucoup sa longueur totale, environ 25 mm. Remarquer \u00e9galement sa nervation extr\u00eamement l\u00e2che.

Il est beaucoup plus facile d’approcher les Asiliidae… Ici, c’est un Bathypogon sp. qui d\u00e9guste un m\u00e2le Pigmy percher. Sur la 2\u00b0 photo, on voit tr\u00e8s bien son proboscis blanc (un bec<\/em> pointu), cet organe ac\u00e9r\u00e9 qui lui permet de perforer la cuticule de la victime, pour injecter ses sucs digestifs et aspirer son repas.

Nannodiplax (1) vient de deux mots grecs, l’un signifiant nain<\/em>, et de diplax ; diplax est lui-m\u00eame form\u00e9 \u00e0 partir de dis<\/em>, pour deux-fois<\/em>, et plax<\/em>, qualifiant quelque chose de large et plat<\/em>, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence au pronotum bilob\u00e9 de cette esp\u00e8ce.
Rubra du latin ruber, pour rouge<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
