Nous avons fr\u00e9quemment rencontr\u00e9s Nannophlebia eludens dans le Territoire du Nord en d\u00e9cembre, beaucoup moins dans le Nord du Queensland en d\u00e9cembre. Mais c’est toujours dans des conditions difficiles, soit en for\u00eat avec peu de lumi\u00e8re, soit en limite de bois ou de for\u00eat, l’insecte \u00e0 la lumi\u00e8re ou au soleil avec un fond sombre derri\u00e8re.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est un genre tr\u00e8s spectaculaire, avec des yeux verts magnifiques, un abdomen tr\u00e8s fin fortement arqu\u00e9 (les Anglo-Saxons l’appellent Elusive archtail), des appendices anaux blancs port\u00e9s par des derniers segments tr\u00e8s dilat\u00e9s, comme on le voit tr\u00e8s bien ci-dessous \u00e0 droite.
Il mesure environ 28 mm pour un abdomen de 20 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il y a 4 Nannophlebia en Australie, et au calme, sur l’\u00e9cran de l’ordinateur, ils ne sont pas difficiles \u00e0 diff\u00e9rencier. Nannophlebia eludens s’identifie par la pr\u00e9sence des marques jaunes au milieu des segments 4,5 et 6 et son pattern thoracique unique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il y aurait 2 formes de femelles ; l’une avec une marque jaune sur le 7\u00b0 segment (seule photo ci-dessous \u00e0 droite), une autre sans cette marque. Ces femelles avec une marque jaune suppl\u00e9mentaire par rapport aux m\u00e2les sont d\u00e9crites \u00e9galement par Tillyard, mais il leur donne un vertex jaune, ce qui n’est pas le cas ici. Mais c’est ce qu’on trouve sur le Web, en particulier sur la partie australienne de Inaturalist. Vraiment \u00e9tonnant …<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est end\u00e9mique d’Australie et on le rencontre sur la fa\u00e7ade est du Queensland, le nord du Territoire du Nord, et l’extr\u00eame nord-est de l’Australie-Occidentale.

Ci-dessous \u00e0 gauche, une situation bien classique ; un m\u00e2le a termin\u00e9 sa course et sa carri\u00e8re, dans une toile d’araign\u00e9e. \u00c9videmment, ces araign\u00e9es sont des sp\u00e9cialistes des milieux humides, et capturer des odonates maladroits est l’occasion de faire un beau repas…
L’autre photo montre quelque chose que je n’avais jamais vu ; 2 esp\u00e8ces sont pi\u00e9g\u00e9es sur le fruit d’un arbre enduit d’une substance collante. Quand je les ai observ\u00e9s, ils \u00e9taient tous les 2 morts, sans doute pas depuis longtemps sinon ils auraient d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9t\u00e9 recycl\u00e9s<\/em>. Il s’agit d’une femelle Nannophlebia eludens et d’un Chorismagrion risi. On note \u00e9galement la pr\u00e9sence d’une exuvie au sommet du fruit.
L’arbre est Ceodes (ex Pisonia) umbellifera (2), de 10 \u00e0 20 m de haut qui produit des ak\u00e8nes d’o\u00f9 exsude une substance collante ; ce processus permettrait de coller les graines aux insectes ou aux oiseaux et ainsi de les disperser. Cependant, la \u00ab\u00a0colle\u00a0\u00bb est tellement puissante qu’elle a valu au v\u00e9g\u00e9tal d’\u00eatre nomm\u00e9 arbre \u00e0 glu<\/em> en anglais (birdlime tree<\/em>) et que les autochtones s’en servait pour capturer de petits oiseaux…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nannophlebia (1) est compos\u00e9 d’un mot grec signifiant nain<\/em>, et de phlebia<\/em>, pour veine<\/em> (nervure). S\u00e9lys a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce nom de genre en signalant qu’il est tr\u00e8s proche de Nannophya \u00e0 l’exception de la veine basale.
Eludens est le participe pr\u00e9sent du verbe latin eludo<\/em> qui signifie s’\u00e9vader<\/em> et Tillyard explique qu’il l’a nomm\u00e9 ainsi en raison de la fa\u00e7on dont il s’\u00e9vade en zigzag quand on le d\u00e9range de son perchoir.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
