Lathrecista asiatica est une esp\u00e8ce \u00e0 laquelle je n’ai pas assez pr\u00eat\u00e9 attention sur le terrain, car je l’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 vue en Malaisie<\/a> ; je n’avais pas le souvenir des mauvaises photos que j’avais faites !
D’autant plus que j’ai eu du mal, faute de prendre le temps sur place, \u00e0 le diff\u00e9rencier de Agrionoptera insignis<\/a>, tr\u00e8s proche. Ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 d’ailleurs class\u00e9s tous les 2 dans le genre Agrionoptera quand Selys a d\u00e9crit la sous-esp\u00e8ce<\/em> Lathrecista asiatica festa<\/em> qu’il avait appel\u00e9e Agrionoptera festa.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bien install\u00e9 devant son \u00e9cran, il devient \u00e9vident que les motifs sur la face lat\u00e9rale du thorax sont tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rents, plus riches en lignes noires pour A. insignis qui n’a pas ces larges bandes brunes au sommet du thorax. Ce dernier montre \u00e9galement un front noir m\u00e9tallique alors que pour Lathrecista asiatica (Asiatic Blood tail ou Scarlet grenadier) il est plut\u00f4t brun\u00e2tre. Enfin, la coloration noire \u00e0 la fin de l’abdomen est strictement limit\u00e9e \u00e0 S9 et S10 pour cette esp\u00e8ce, mordant largement sur le S8 pour A. insignis.
Je ne trouve malheureusement nulle part pas les diff\u00e9rences entre l’esp\u00e8ce nominale et la sous-esp\u00e8ce L. asiatica festa qui est la seule pr\u00e9sente en Australie et mentionn\u00e9e dans The Complete Field Guide to Dragonflies of Australia ; cette derni\u00e8re a m\u00eame re\u00e7u un nom commun sp\u00e9cifique en Australie, Australasian slimwing. Il mesure 44 \u00e0 47 mm.
Il semble y avoir tout de m\u00eame au moins une diff\u00e9rence, le thorax des m\u00e2les ne devient pas bleu \u00e0 maturit\u00e9 alors que les sujets asiatiques se couvrent d’une pruinosit\u00e9 bleu\u00e2tre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ci-dessus et ci-dessous 2 m\u00e2les immatures, la coloration rouge de l’abdomen n’est pas encore apparue, le bas des yeux n’est pas bleu. La photo ci-dessous souligne les difficult\u00e9s \u00e0 photographier certaines esp\u00e8ces qui ne d\u00e9daignent pas l’ombre ; le sujet est \u00e0 l’ombre, le fond est au soleil, le flash devient indispensable. Il est du plus mauvais effet sur les rouges tr\u00e8s vifs que mon Canon (d\u00e9faut r\u00e9current sur tous les mod\u00e8les) \u00e0 bien du mal \u00e0 reproduire fid\u00e8lement et j’ai finalement peu de photos correctes de m\u00e2les matures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les m\u00e2les immatures permettent la transition vers les femelles puisque, presque toujours chez les Libellulidae, ils sont copies conformes ; comme ici, il n’y a souvent de diff\u00e9rences que sur la structure des appendices anaux, l’abdomen plus large pour les femelles et la forme de la partie basale de l’aile post\u00e9rieure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On trouve l’esp\u00e8ce sur des milieux vari\u00e9s, rivi\u00e8res, ruisseaux, marais, mares… et il est distribu\u00e9 en Australie le long des c\u00f4tes est et nord du Queensland et le nord du Territoire du Nord. Il serait pr\u00e9sent, la sous-esp\u00e8ce festa<\/em>, en Nouvelle-Guin\u00e9e.
Car l’esp\u00e8ce Lathrecista asiatica est distribu\u00e9e largement distribu\u00e9e en Australasie, jusqu’en Inde. Il est donc possible que plusieurs esp\u00e8ces se cachent sous ces sous-esp\u00e8ces…

Lathrecista (1) vient de 2 mots grecs, lathraios<\/em> signifiant cach\u00e9<\/em>, et cista<\/em> pour panier<\/em>, sans doute en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence aux organes g\u00e9nitaux secondaires du m\u00e2le, qui ne sont pas ext\u00e9rioris\u00e9s comme habituellement pour les Libellulidae.
Asiatica vient du latin asiaticus, qui signifie … asiatique<\/em>.
Si le nom anglais Asiatic Blood tail est assez \u00e9vident c’est moins le cas du nom qu’on lui donne, en Asie, de Scarlet grenadier ; sa livr\u00e9e rouge et bleue rappelle les couleurs de l’habit des soldats grenadiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
