Mnais andersoni (Calopterygidae) a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9couvert par Mac Lachlan au Yunnan, et confi\u00e9 par l’auteur \u00e0 Selys qui l’a d\u00e9crit dans ses \u00a0\u00bb Troisi\u00e8mes additions au Synopsis des Calopt\u00e9rygines\u00a0\u00bb. Il mesure environ 47 mm.
C’est une esp\u00e8ce \u00e9tonnante, car elle pr\u00e9sente 2 formes tr\u00e8s distinctes, l’une comme ci-dessus, avec des ailes hyalines ou \u00e0 peine teint\u00e9es (chez le sujet bien mature) ou comme ci-dessous tr\u00e8s ambr\u00e9es, \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on de nos jeunes Calopteryx virgo europ\u00e9ens. Au moins une autre esp\u00e8ce, Mnais costalis, pr\u00e9sente \u00e9galement ces 2 types de m\u00e2les et a fait l’objet de plusieurs \u00e9tudes comportementales qui s’appliquent tout \u00e0 fait \u00e0 Mnais andersoni.

Les m\u00e2les aux ailes ambr\u00e9es sont des m\u00e2les territoriaux, d\u00e9fendant un lieu de ponte, pr\u00eats \u00e0 attaquer tout m\u00e2le aux ailes ambr\u00e9es ou non rentrant dans son territoire. Les m\u00e2les aux ailes hyalines sont discrets, \u00e9voluent en retrait des territoires de ponte, prennent la fuite en cas de conflit et ne combattent pas.

D\u00e9velopper et maintenir des ailes ambr\u00e9es (caract\u00e8re g\u00e9n\u00e9tiquement d\u00e9termin\u00e9) est co\u00fbteux sur le plan \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique, les m\u00e2les sont plus grands et ont une musculature (et une dose de graisse) plus importante que celle des m\u00e2les hyalins.  Mais les femelles les pr\u00e9f\u00e8rent\u202f! Ils s’accouplent donc fr\u00e9quemment, mais pour ce faire combattent souvent, ce qui repr\u00e9sente un co\u00fbt \u00e9nerg\u00e9tique \u00e9lev\u00e9, et diminue aussi l’esp\u00e9rance de vie.
De leur c\u00f4t\u00e9, les m\u00e2les aux ailes hyalines vivent discr\u00e8tement en retrait des m\u00e2les ambr\u00e9s, profitent des femelles attir\u00e9es par ces m\u00e2les et vivent plus longtemps, donc au final, ils s’accouplent autant pendant leur vie plus longue que les m\u00e2les ambr\u00e9s, d’o\u00f9 la persistance ces 2 formes sans qu’aucune ne supplante l’autre. On le rencontre depuis le nord de la Tha\u00eflande et le Myanmar, \u00e0 travers le sud de la Chine jusqu’\u00e0 Ta\u00efwan, en passant par le Laos et le nord du Vietnam.
