Eusynthemis nigra est un Synthemistidae, et cette famille primitive \u00e9tait autrefois int\u00e9gr\u00e9e au Corduliidae (\u00ab\u00a0notre\u00a0\u00bb Oxygastra curtisii en fait partie). C’est une famille tr\u00e8s pr\u00e9sente en Australie et nous avons rencontr\u00e9 plusieurs genres de cette famille, tous avec un abdomen long et \u00e9troit, mais c’est le seul Eusynthemis que nous avons contact\u00e9 ; ils sont pourtant une quinzaine, mais sont surtout pr\u00e9sents au sud et au sud-est (Atlas of Living Australia<\/a>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ils sont noirs, avec des ponctuations paires, variables en intensit\u00e9, sur l’abdomen, alors que le thorax porte une large bande jaune, l\u00e9g\u00e8rement encoch\u00e9e.
Noter les yeux bleus\/verts, gris et noirs ; je ne crois pas avoir jamais rencontr\u00e9 de noir sur les yeux d’un odonate et je regrette de ne pas m’en \u00eatre aper\u00e7u sur place, sinon j’aurais tent\u00e9 de m’en approcher…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure environ 50 mm et fr\u00e9quente les ruisseaux et les rivi\u00e8res, m\u00eame rapides.
Son nom commun est Black tigertail<\/em>.
Autre curiosit\u00e9, on trouve un petit point blanc \u00e0 la base de chaque aile, sur la veine costale. Et un au centre de ces 4 points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous avons vu les femelles aussi souvent que les m\u00e2les, mais presque toutes tr\u00e8s jeunes, presque \u00e9mergentes, ce que l’on reconna\u00eet bien aux reflets particuliers de la lumi\u00e8re sur leurs ailes et \u00e0 la couleur de leurs yeux ; les jeunes femelles ont les yeux marron, une fois matures, les yeux deviennent tricolores, comme ceux des m\u00e2les.
On distingue tr\u00e8s bien l’encoche caract\u00e9ristique sur la bande lat\u00e9rale du thorax.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il faut noter 2 d\u00e9tails ; les femelles ont la base des ailes ambr\u00e9es, et leur base post\u00e9rieure est arrondie (avec un angle pour les m\u00e2les), ce qui est assez commun chez les anisopt\u00e8res.

Eusynthemis nigra est end\u00e9mique d’Australie et on ne le trouve que dans l’est du Queensland et l’extr\u00eame nord-est de la Nouvelle-Galles-du-Sud (IUCN Red List<\/a>).
C’est toujours une chance de rencontrer un accouplement d’odonates, d’autant qu’il est spectaculaire avec leurs longs abdomens. Noter la tr\u00e8s large zone ambr\u00e9e, \u00e0 la base des ailes de la femelle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eusynthemis (1) vient du mot grec eu<\/em>, qui signifie bien<\/em> et de synthemis<\/em>, sans doute pour indiquer que par rapport aux archa\u00efques Paleosynthemis c’est un genre plus moderne, plus r\u00e9cente. Synthemis est issu du grec syn<\/em>, qui signifie avec<\/em>, et de Themis, d\u00e9esse de la loi divine, de l’ordre et de la justice<\/em>. Ce nom de d\u00e9esse a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 selon Fliedner (2004) plus de 50 fois pour nommer des odonates et ce n’est que justice car \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9tant la d\u00e9esse de l’ordre, Themis est une tr\u00e8s convenable sainte patronne des taxinomistes\u00a0\u00bb.
Nigra, du latin niger<\/em> qui signifie noir<\/em>, sombre<\/em>, se r\u00e9f\u00e8re bien s\u00fbr \u00e0 la coloration de cet odonate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
