Si nous nous sommes rendus sur le site des chutes de Tjaetaba c'est en grande partie en ciblant Notolibellula bicolor, rarement observ\u00e9e et pourtant tellement spectaculaire. \u00c0 notre arriv\u00e9e sur le site \u00e0 9 heures, rien ne vole ou presque, malgr\u00e9 la chaleur d\u00e9j\u00e0 pr\u00e9sente. Et puis petit \u00e0 petit les esp\u00e8ces se montrent, arrivant subrepticement d'on ne sait o\u00f9.
D'abord Ceriagrion aeruginosum, puis Hydrobasileus brevistylus, un peu plus tard Orthetrum migratum, et vers 10 heures les rives s'animent ; Nanodiplax rubra, Nososticta moudsi et coelestina. \u00c0 11 heures, une femelle Ictinogomphus australis nous rend visite, un Diplacodes bipunctata, un m\u00e2le Rhodothemis lieftincki, enfin \u00e0 11 heures 30, il appara\u00eet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il n'est pas besoin d'\u00e9piloguer sur son identification, le Bicoloured skimmer<\/em> est unique par son habit bleu pulv\u00e9rulent et rouge. Il est facile de comprendre pourquoi il m'a fait penser \u00e0 Philosina buchi<\/a> ; autre famille (Philosinidae), autre continent (Vietnam \u2013 Asie), mais tellement similaire par la coloration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Peu de d\u00e9tails sont disponibles sur l'\u00e9cologie de cet odonate d\u00e9couvert par Tony Watson dans la r\u00e9gion de Kimberley ; il est de taille moyenne et vit dans les eaux calmes et les rockholes<\/em>, ces piscines naturelles qui se forment sur le cours des rivi\u00e8res ou ruisseaux dans les zones escarp\u00e9es.
Son abdomen, avec les appendices anaux, mesure 26 \u00e0 27,5 mm. Au total, il mesure environ 49 mm.
Il est seul de son genre et serait apparent\u00e9 aux Agrionoptera<\/a> (ici Agrionoptera<\/em> insignis allogenes<\/em> d'Australie).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous ne l'avons rencontr\u00e9 que sur 2 sites. Sur le premier site o\u00f9 nous l'avons le plus longuement observ\u00e9, il a disparu au bout de 15 minutes.
Notolibellula bicolor est end\u00e9mique d'Australie o\u00f9 sa distribution le restreint au nord de l'Australie-Occidentale, du Territoire du Nord et du Queensland.

L'\u00e9tymologie est donn\u00e9e par Endersby & Fliedner (2015).
Notolibellula<\/strong> : noto<\/em>, comme austro<\/em> signifie vent du sud<\/em> en grec et est utilis\u00e9 pour signifier l'appartenance australienne de ce Libellulidae, par opposition aux Libellula de l'h\u00e9misph\u00e8re nord.
Bicolor<\/strong> est \u00e9vident, du latin bicolor, signifiant de 2 couleurs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
