La rencontre avec Lithosticta macra a \u00e9t\u00e9 un des moments forts de ces 3 semaines de prospection dans le territoire du Nord, en avril et mai 2022. En effet, cette esp\u00e8ce, tout comme Eurysticta coomalie, n’avait jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 photographi\u00e9e sur le terrain auparavant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La seule photo disponible se trouvait dans The Complete Field Guide to Dragonflies of Australia<\/em> par G\u00fcnther Theischinger et John Hawking, montrant une femelle dess\u00e9ch\u00e9e et d\u00e9color\u00e9e, l\u00e9gend\u00e9e d’ailleurs Lithosticta macra m\u00e2le…
Ce 19 avril 2022, presque sur les berges de la Katherine River<\/a> et de ses gorges, nous avons rencontr\u00e9 plusieurs individus m\u00e2les d’\u00e2ges divers et un tandem ; noter la couleur des yeux et des parties sombres des sujets ci-dessus ; celui de gauche, plus jeune, a encore les yeux laiteux et sa coloration vert fonc\u00e9 n’est pas encore ternie. Il mesure environ 40 mm et ceci est une approximation a posteriori : la description originale de Watson (que m’a tr\u00e8s gentiment adress\u00e9 Ian Endersby) est la plus courte que j’ai jamais vue (6 lignes) !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ci-dessous, sur ces 2 gros-plans du Rock narrow-wing, on remarque le pronotum avec son bord relev\u00e9 dans sa partie post\u00e9rieure, formant 2 petites \u00e9pines lat\u00e9ralement. Ce sont des sujets matures, encore jeune, aux yeux verts magnifiques, tr\u00e8s peu envahis de pruinosit\u00e9 que l’on distingue derri\u00e8re la t\u00eate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A droite sur ce gros-plan des appendices anaux, on remarque le 9\u00b0 et 10\u00b0 segment qui se couvrent \u00e9galement d’une discr\u00e8te pruinosit\u00e9, \u00e0 la fa\u00e7on de certains de nos lestes europ\u00e9ens, qu’ils ne sont d’ailleurs pas sans rappeler par la forme de leurs ailes \u00e9troites et leur coloration vert m\u00e9tallique.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

End\u00e9mique d’Australie, les Lithosticta macra sont m\u00eame end\u00e9miques du Territoire du Nord. Dans le guide d\u00e9j\u00e0 mentionn\u00e9, ils sont restreints \u00e0 l’extr\u00eame nord-est du territoire du Nord, une zone, qu’on appelle Arnhem Land. Mais nous les avons rencontr\u00e9s un peu plus \u00e0 l’ouest de cette zone.

On ne peut cependant pas dire qu’ils sont vraiment rares, nous les avons rencontr\u00e9s sur 3 sites diff\u00e9rents, certes recul\u00e9s, l’un plus difficile d’acc\u00e8s et o\u00f9 il faut vraiment avoir envie d’y trouver des libellules…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le sujet ci-dessus a d\u00fb se tirer d’un mauvais pas, car son abdomen ab\u00eem\u00e9, \u00e9cras\u00e9, montre qu’il a \u00e9chapp\u00e9 de peu \u00e0 un pr\u00e9dateur…
Voici d’ailleurs son habitat<\/a> sur le site d’Edith Falls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
