\u00c0 vrai dire, le premier sujet que nous avons rencontr\u00e9 est cette femelle Lithosticta macra que nous avons rencontr\u00e9e le 19 avril et c’est d’ailleurs son habitat pr\u00e9f\u00e9r\u00e9, rivi\u00e8res et ruisseaux dans un environnement rocheux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette Rock narrow-wing, puisque c’est son nom australien, c’est la m\u00eame sur les 2 photos ci-dessus, a montr\u00e9 un curieux comportement ; elle a d’abord cherch\u00e9 \u00e0 pondre sur la bandouli\u00e8re d’un sac, puis a simul\u00e9 (je suppose) la ponte sur ce rocher vertical, mais du c\u00f4t\u00e9 oppos\u00e9 \u00e0 la rivi\u00e8re, certainement un endroit toujours exond\u00e9…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elles ont globalement les m\u00eames motifs thoraciques et abdominaux que les m\u00e2les ; elles s’en diff\u00e9rencient par le pronotum qui pr\u00e9sente un lobe post\u00e9rieur m\u00e9dian, relev\u00e9 et tr\u00e8s nettement bifide. Ce pronotum ne porte pas les \u00e9pines lat\u00e9rales du m\u00e2le.
Quelle est l’utilit\u00e9 de ce petit lobe bident\u00e9 ? Peut-\u00eatre aucun car il ne semble pas intervenir de fa\u00e7on d\u00e9cisive sur la fa\u00e7on dont le m\u00e2le maintient pendant l’accouplement, en tout cas de ce que j’ai pu en observer quelques jours plus tard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’abdomen est beaucoup plus massif que celui du m\u00e2le et se termine par de lourds segments terminaux et un long ovipositeur ; il est dot\u00e9 d’un puissant stylet (que l’on voit sur la photo 2) mais il ne faut tout de m\u00eame pas le confondre avec un marteau-piqueur et je pense que cette femelle surestime ses capacit\u00e9s !<\/p>\n<\/div>

Lithosticta du grec lithos<\/em> pour pierre<\/em> et du latin sticta<\/em> qui signifie tatou\u00e9, tach\u00e9<\/em> et qui se r\u00e9f\u00e8re souvent au pt\u00e9rostigmas des odonates. Mais il semble plut\u00f4t, qu’ici, ce sticta<\/em> n’est ajout\u00e9 que pour signifier l’appartenance au Isostictidae et que le sens v\u00e9ritable du nom de genre doit \u00eatre cherch\u00e9 dans l’affinit\u00e9 de l’esp\u00e8ce pour l’environnement rocheux.
Macra, forme f\u00e9minine du latin macer<\/em> signifie maigre<\/em> et la description originale rappelle le caract\u00e8re mince ou \u00e9lanc\u00e9e de cette esp\u00e8ce (pour le m\u00e2le, je suppose) (1).
Le nom australien d\u00e9j\u00e0 \u00e9voqu\u00e9, Rock narrow-wing, lui, insiste plut\u00f4t sur l’\u00e9troitesse des ailes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Un tandem<\/em> m’a permis de m’approcher pour comprendre comment le m\u00e2le maintient la femelle par ses appendices anaux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur le site de Anbangbang, haut-lieu de l’art pari\u00e9tal aborig\u00e8ne, nous sommes bien s\u00fbr sortis des sentiers pour descendre \u00e0 flanc de montagne \u00e0 la recherche d’un suppos\u00e9 ruisseau\/torrent. Nous en avons trouv\u00e9 un d’1 m\u00e8tre ou 2 de large, que nous avons remont\u00e9.
Nous avons eu le plaisir d’y d\u00e9couvrir, une femelle et enfin un accouplement !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

La gymnastique de ce m\u00e2le est \u00e9tonnante pour les non-initi\u00e9s : le m\u00e2le est tout simplement<\/em> en train de transf\u00e9rer son sperme ; en effet, celui-ci est produit dans les derniers segments de l’abdomen, mais il est utilis\u00e9 sous les 2\u00b0, l\u00e0 o\u00f9 se trouve son pseudo-p\u00e9nis.

Le \u00ab\u00a0c\u0153ur copulatoire\u00a0\u00bb est \u00e9tonnant, mais il faut savoir qu’il est pr\u00e9c\u00e9d\u00e9 de cette phase pour tous les odonates<\/strong>, le plus souvent, comme ici, juste avant l’accouplement et souvent chez les zygopt\u00e8res, apr\u00e8s la capture de la femelle.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ci-dessous, \u00e0 gauche, m\u00eame si la photo n’est pas parfaite, je trouve la t\u00eate de cette femelle Lithosticta macra assez extraordinaire par sa face allong\u00e9e, presque simiesque. Sur certaines autres photos, elle me fait penser \u00e0 … une ch\u00e8vre.
On trouve tr\u00e8s peu de d\u00e9tails sur cette esp\u00e8ce et les informations donn\u00e9es par l’excellent Atlas of Living Australia, ALA<\/a>, sont succintes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
