Choristhemis flavoterminata fait partie des Synthemistidae, une famille primitive de libellules. Et, contrairement \u00e0 ce qu’on pourrait imaginer en raison de la finesse de son abdomen, c’est bien un Anisopt\u00e8re, comme en t\u00e9moigne la position de ses ailes au repos. Son genre serait complet (ils ne seraient que 2), avec le tr\u00e8s rare et \u00e9nigmatique Choristhemis olivei, qui n’a jamais \u00e9t\u00e9 montr\u00e9 dans la litt\u00e9rature ou l’imagerie digitale.
Il mesure 47 mm avec un abdomen de 35 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De plus, si on prend le soin de cliquer pour agrandir les photos, on note la base des ailes post\u00e9rieures (des m\u00e2les) tr\u00e8s fortement \u00e9chancr\u00e9e, et si on a de bons yeux, on remarque la saillie lat\u00e9rale des auricules sur le premier segment abdominal ; c’est bien un Anisopt\u00e8re, car si cette curieuse saillie ne se montre pas chez tous les anisopt\u00e8res, loin de l\u00e0, elle n’existe que chez eux. Cette auricule est pr\u00e9sente par exemple chez les Aeshna ou les Gomphidae europ\u00e9ens, et bien d’autres (pas les Libellulidae)…

Ci-dessous, 2 diff\u00e9rents Yellow-tipped tigertail comme les nomment les Australiens ; ce sont 2 sujets tout frais qui ont quelques heures. On note leurs yeux laiteux qui deviendront franchement marrons dans leur partie sup\u00e9rieure et leurs ailes ambr\u00e9es.
C’est vraiment la premi\u00e8re fois que je vois un Anisopt\u00e8re aussi fin !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Choristhemis flavoterminata est un habitant des rivi\u00e8res et, si on se fie \u00e0 ce que nous avons observ\u00e9, des cours d’eau avec des zones d’ombres et de rochers.
Sa distribution le limite \u00e0 la zone costale du Queensland et de la Nouvelle-Galles-du-Sud.

Les femelles sont tr\u00e8s proches des m\u00e2les, la tache jaune terminale est cependant moins marqu\u00e9e, et la base de leurs ailes post\u00e9rieures est arrondie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie<\/span><\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Choristhemis (1) vient d’un mot grec signifiant –sans<\/em>– soulignant ici que les esp\u00e8ces de ce genre n’ont pas de membranule \u00e0 la base des ailes et de Themis. Themis est la d\u00e9esse de la loi divine, de l\u2019ordre et de la justice<\/em>. Mais pourquoi Themis ; certainement parce que d\u2019autres noms de libellules comportaient des noms de dieux comme Echo ou Nehalennia, et quand Brauer a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre Trithemis, la mode \u00e9tait toujours \u00ab \u00e0 la mythologie \u00bb. Ce nom de d\u00e9esse a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9, selon Fliedner (2004), plus de 50 fois, pour nommer des odonates et ce n\u2019est que justice car \u00ab \u00e9tant la d\u00e9esse de l\u2019ordre, Themis est une tr\u00e8s convenable patronne des taxinomistes \u00bb.
Flavoterminata des 3 mots latins –flavus<\/em> pour jaune<\/em>, –terminus<\/em> pour fin<\/em> et du suffixe –atus<\/em> pour avec<\/em>, signifiant que l’esp\u00e8ce montre une extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 jaune.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
