J’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 Zyxomma petiolatum au Vietnam<\/a>, une seule fois, en vol et \u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit, l’heure o\u00f9 on le rencontre en principe. Cette fois-ci, c’est un peu mieux, m\u00eame si c’est tr\u00e8s \u00e0 l’ombre ; mais qu’ils soient en vol ou au repos, ils pr\u00e9f\u00e8rent les environnements sombres. Ici, puisque toutes les photos montrent le m\u00eame sujet, nous sommes dans un sous-bois sombre, pr\u00e8s d’une assez large rivi\u00e8re, connue pour ses crocodiles responsables d’une r\u00e9cente attaque mortelle…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est lui-m\u00eame tr\u00e8s sombre, avec un abdomen filiforme qui tranche avec son thorax volumineux et ses yeux verts.
On pourrait le confondre avec son cousin Z. elgneri, mais celui-ci est beaucoup plus petit, avec un abdomen moins fin, un peu dilat\u00e9 distalement et plus clair sur les flancs.
Il mesure environ 55 mm et il se pla\u00eet, \u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit ou les jours couverts, pr\u00e8s des mares, lacs ou des rivi\u00e8res \u00e0 lent d\u00e9bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On le rencontre de l’Inde au Japon et \u00e0 travers toute l’Asie du Sud-Est jusqu’aux iles du Pacifique, la Nouvelle-Guin\u00e9e et l’extr\u00eame nord de l’Australie, nord du Territoire du Nord et du Queensland.

Zyxomma (1) est compos\u00e9 de 2 mots grecs, le premier signifiant –accoupl\u00e9<\/em>, le second –omma<\/em> pour \u0153il<\/em> (comme dans ommatidies<\/a>), ceci se r\u00e9f\u00e9rant \u00e0 ses larges yeux contigus. On lit dans la description originale \u00ab\u00a0T\u00eate grosse, ayant la face tr\u00e8s \u00e9troite, yeux tr\u00e8s d\u00e9velopp\u00e9s comme chez les Aeshna, contigus dans une \u00e9tendue \u00e9gale \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s \u00e0 leur plus grande largeur\u00a0\u00bb. Ce nom de genre a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 pour l’esp\u00e8ce petiolatum<\/em>, seule connue \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque.
Petiolatum, du latin petiolu<\/em>s, diminutif de pied<\/em>, mais aussi utilis\u00e9 dans l’Antiquit\u00e9 pour d\u00e9signer la tige d’un fruit, et du suffixe –atus<\/em> signifiant –fourni avec, dot\u00e9 de <\/em>. Rambur a eu en main un exemplaire tr\u00e8s abim\u00e9 auquel il manquait les cinq derniers segments de l’abdomen, dont il d\u00e9crit la base v\u00e9siculeuse suivie de segments tr\u00e8s gr\u00eales, comme\u2026 un p\u00e9tiole.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
