Je n’ai eu qu’une seule occasion de rencontrer Pseudagrion cingillum sur un ensemble d’\u00e9tang \u00e0 Mareeba. Il s’est av\u00e9r\u00e9 difficile \u00e0 approcher, \u00e0 la fois parce qu’il se tenait sur les n\u00e9nuphars loin du bord et parce qu’il \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s craintif. \u00c9tait-il seul dans cette partie de l’\u00e9tang, c’est difficile \u00e0 dire, car il est difficile \u00e0 diff\u00e9rencier, \u00e0 distance, de P. microcephalum.

Cependant, ses bandes noires thoraciques sont nettement plus discr\u00e8tes, et celle qui souligne la car\u00e8ne dorsale est en fait form\u00e9e de 3 fines lignes noires presque contigu\u00ebs. Les motifs abdominaux, en torpilles, sont les m\u00eames sauf pour ce qui fait la singularit\u00e9 de P. microcephalum, c’est-\u00e0-dire l’\u00e9paississement de l’anneau noir \u00e0 l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 des segments 8 et 9. On note un \u00ab\u00a0x\u00a0\u00bb noir sur le 10\u00b0 segment (\u00e0 la fa\u00e7on d’Erythromma viridulum !), il est beaucoup plus gras, mal dessin\u00e9 ou quasiment absent pour P. microcephalum. Enfin, les appendices anaux sont plus longs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure environ 32 mm.
On le trouve sur les ruisseaux et petites rivi\u00e8res, les mares et les \u00e9tangs.
Sa distribution le limite au nord de l’Australie (Northern riverdamsel) sur toute la c\u00f4te est du Queensland jusqu’\u00e0 l’extr\u00eame nord-est de l’Australie-occidentale. Il est \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent en Nouvelle-Guin\u00e9e.

Pseudagrion (1) du grec ancien pseudo<\/em> –faux, erron\u00e9<\/em> et de agrion, ceci, comme l’\u00e9crit S\u00e9lys, pour t\u00e9moigner de la difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 s\u00e9parer ce genre des Agrion ; \u00ab\u00a0les Pseudagrions semblent tr\u00e8s voisins des vrais Agrions\u00a0\u00bb. Agrion, du grec Agrios<\/em>– sauvage<\/em>, vivant dans les champs.
Cingillum est un diminutif de cingulum<\/em> – ceinture et signifie de ce fait -petite ceinture, sans doute en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 certaines marques annulaires de l’abdomen. En effet, Brauer dans sa description souligne la pr\u00e9sence d’un fin anneau noir soulignant la jonction des segments 2 et 3 : \u00ab\u00a0Premier segment abdominal bleu, en haut \u00e0 la base un carr\u00e9 noir, qui laisse le bord post\u00e9rieur largement bleu, le bord le plus externe formant un fin anneau noir\u00a0\u00bb. Tr\u00e8s \u00e9tonnamment, Brauer a commis un lapsus calami<\/em>, car il ne fait pas de doute que le quadrilat\u00e8re noir est sur le 2\u00b0 segment ! J’ai d’ailleurs beaucoup de mal \u00e0 comprendre la suite de la description<\/a> concernant l’abdomen, qui ne correspond pas \u00e0 ce que je peux observer sur mes sujets…
