Nous n’avons rencontr\u00e9 Rhadinosticta banksi, Isostictidae, que sur ce site, o\u00f9 nous sommes revenus 1 fois pour… trouver le m\u00e2le, puisque la premi\u00e8re fois, nous avions d\u00fb nous satisfaire de la femelle. Ce site est une ancienne mine d’uranium \u00e0 ciel ouvert et les Northern wiretails, leur nom australien, se tenait sur un ruisseau qui termine son cours dans le lac. Malheureusement, le site est tr\u00e8s ombrag\u00e9 et mes photos ne lui rendent pas hommage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le tr\u00e8s mauvais agrandissement \u00e0 droite a pour but de faire remarquer les 2 longues \u00e9pines lat\u00e9rales de la partie post\u00e9rieure du pronotum ; elles sont sp\u00e9cifiques \u00e0 l’esp\u00e8ce et permettent \u00e0 coup s\u00fbr de la s\u00e9parer de Rhadinosticta simplex pour lequel ces \u00e9pines sont courtes (nous ne l’avons pas contact\u00e9). Il est \u00e9tonnant que Tillyard ne mentionne pas cette caract\u00e9ristique singuli\u00e8re, sans doute les \u00e9pines des sujets qu’il a d\u00e9crits \u00e9taient-elles cass\u00e9es…
Les appendices anaux sont bien s\u00fbr diff\u00e9rents ; les inf\u00e9rieurs sont minces pour Rhadinosticta banksi, massifs pour son cousin.
Il semble tr\u00e8s variable en taille ; si Tillyard, quand il le d\u00e9crit sous le nom de Isosticta banksi le mesure \u00e0 44 mm, on trouve des donn\u00e9es plus r\u00e9centes ou il toise 34 mm seulement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour ce qui est de la pruinosit\u00e9, les femelles semblent se contenter d’un soup\u00e7on de maquillage \u00e0 l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 du 9\u00b0 segment et sur le 10\u00b0.
Noter les billes vertes des yeux des m\u00e2les et des femelles !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On rencontre cette esp\u00e8ce sur les ruisseaux et les petites rivi\u00e8res, apparemment dans leurs zones ombrag\u00e9es.
Sa distribution le cantonne au nord et nord-est de l’Australie, depuis l’extr\u00eame est de l’Australie-Occidentale jusqu’\u00e0 la fronti\u00e8re entre le Queensland et la Nouvelle-Galles-du-Sud.

Rhadinosticta ; rhadino<\/em> (1) vient d’un mot grec signifiant –mince<\/em> et sticta<\/em>, \u00e9galement du grec et signifie –marqu\u00e9, tatou\u00e9<\/em>. Il semble que la premi\u00e8re partie du nom de genre n’a pas de rapport avec les caract\u00e9ristiques physiques des individus, mais soit utilis\u00e9 pour les s\u00e9parer du genre Isosticta, dans lequel Tillyard les avait plac\u00e9s.
Banksi, comme le pr\u00e9cise Tillyard, est directement inspir\u00e9 par le lieu o\u00f9 les premiers sujets d\u00e9crits ont \u00e9t\u00e9 captur\u00e9s, l’ile de Banks, dans le d\u00e9troit de Torres.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
