Teinobasis rufithorax est un Coenagrionidae d'environ 35 mm, avec un abdomen spectaculaire de 38 \u00e0 40 mm. Il est aussi remarquable par sa coloration rouge-sang du thorax, des derniers segments et des appendices anaux.
C'est le premier sujet de ce genre que je rencontre ; il compte pourtant de nombreux repr\u00e9sentants en Asie du sud-est, 68 au total, mais un seul en Australie, ce qui facilite l'identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous avons rencontr\u00e9 le Red-breasted longtail, le nom que lui donnent les Australiens, en for\u00eat, dans des zones tr\u00e8s ombrag\u00e9es o\u00f9 malgr\u00e9 sa couleur, il n'est pas facile \u00e0 d\u00e9nicher. S'il d\u00e9colle, on le perd facilement ; c'est peut-\u00eatre difficile \u00e0 croire, mais son abdomen en son milieu mesure \u00e0 peine un demi-millim\u00e8tre de diam\u00e8tre. Il affectionnerait cet environnement sombre et appr\u00e9cierait les trous d'eau profonds, mais \u00e9galement des eaux courantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En Australie, on ne le rencontre que dans l'extr\u00eame nord du Queensland et dans les iles du d\u00e9troit de Torres. Il est \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent aux Moluques, en Nouvelle-Guin\u00e9e et aux iles Salomon.

Teinobasis (1) ; Selys avait d\u00e9crit cette esp\u00e8ce comme appartenant aux Telebasis, qui est un genre exclusivement am\u00e9ricain. Kirby, lorsqu'il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce nouveau genre en 1890 a remplac\u00e9 le mot grec -tele<\/em>, signifiant - \u00e0 distance<\/em>, par -teino<\/em>, pour \u00e9tendre<\/em>, ceci pour souligner le fait que l'aile est tr\u00e8s p\u00e9tiol\u00e9e et que ce r\u00e9tr\u00e9cissement s'\u00e9tend, selon les mots m\u00eames de Selys \"jusqu'\u00e0 l'origine du quadrilat\u00e8re apr\u00e8s la nervure post-costale\".
Rufithorax, du latin -rufus<\/em>, rouge ou roux<\/em> et du grec -thorax<\/em> pour insister sur la coloration rouge ou orang\u00e9e du thorax, comme Selys le d\u00e9crit dans \"Synopsis des Agrionines, 5me l\u00e9gion: Agrion (suite et fin). Les genres\u00a0Telebasis<\/em>,\u00a0Argiocnemis<\/em>\u00a0et\u00a0Hemiphlebia<\/em>\"<\/a>.
