Tous les Tonyosynthemis claviculata (Synthesmistidae) que nous avons rencontr\u00e9s pos\u00e9s m’ont sembl\u00e9 jeunes, voire \u00e9mergents pour certains ; ils n’ont pas les yeux vert \u00e9meraude des sujets observ\u00e9s en vol. Malgr\u00e9 plusieurs tentatives, je n’ai pas r\u00e9ussi \u00e0 faire de photo correcte, et je ne pr\u00e9sente que celle-ci :<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est une raret\u00e9 et on trouve peu de photos sur le Web de ce Clavicle tigertail, comme l’appellent les Australiens.
Il mesure 48 mm pour un abdomen de 30 et se distingue de l’autre esp\u00e8ce du genre T. ofarelli par le fait que la large bande noire sur la suture thoracique post\u00e9rieure est interrompue pour cette derni\u00e8re et laisse largement communiquer les 2 bandes jaunes. Les appendices anaux sont en effet tr\u00e8s voisins ; ils sont cependant spectaculairement longs et j’ai bien regrett\u00e9 de ne pas parvenir \u00e0 m’en approcher pour pouvoir les d\u00e9tailler.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il se pla\u00eet sur ruisseaux et les rivi\u00e8res rapides.
Sa distribution le limite au nord-est du Queensland et plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment une petite r\u00e9gion centr\u00e9e sur Cairns (son cousin T. ofarelli vit plus au sud).

Nous n’avons rencontr\u00e9 qu’une seule femelle dont les motifs thoraciques et abdominaux sont tr\u00e8s proches des m\u00e2les ; noter cependant la coloration ambr\u00e9e \u00e0 la base des ailes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tonyosynthemis (1) ; quand Tillyard a d\u00e9crit l’esp\u00e8ce en 1909, c’est sous le nom de Synthemis claviculata, et il fait la remarque que les Synthemis \u00e9tait en grand besoin d’une minutieuse r\u00e9vision. C’est Theischinger qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le genre en 1988 et qui explique que le nom est un hommage \u00ab\u00a0\u00e0 deux inoubliables amis et remarquables odonatologistes\u00a0\u00bb, Tony<\/em> O’farell et Tony<\/em> Watson.
Quant \u00e0 synthemis il est compos\u00e9 du grec –syn<\/em>, –avec<\/em> et de Themis, d\u00e9esse de l’ordre, ce qui s’appliquait bien \u00e0 la mise en ordre qu’effectuent les taxinomistes et a \u00e9t\u00e9 fr\u00e9quemment utilis\u00e9 comme suffixe pour nommer les odonates.
Claviculata, est un diminutif du latin -clava<\/em>, pour trique<\/em> ou gourdin, <\/em>et Tillyard \u00e9crit que l’esp\u00e8ce est \u00ab\u00a0named from the peculiar form of the appendages\u00a0\u00bb, ondul\u00e9s et l\u00e9g\u00e8rement dilat\u00e9s (les appendices) distalement.
