Nous sommes certainement arriv\u00e9s au tout d\u00e9but de l’apparition de Hemigomphus theischingeri, car les 2 sujets, 1 m\u00e2le et 1 femelle, que nous avons rencontr\u00e9s \u00e9taient des \u00e9mergents, ayant quitt\u00e9 l’\u00e9l\u00e9ment liquide le jour-m\u00eame, comme en t\u00e9moignent leurs yeux, leurs ailes et leur coloration globale.
C’est une esp\u00e8ce de description r\u00e9cente, 1991 : pourtant on ne trouve aucun renseignement sur le Web, une recherche Google ne donne qu’un seul lien ! \u00c0 partir du tr\u00e8s utile Atlas of Living Australia<\/em>, on trouve un lien vers sa description par Watson, dans The Australian Gomphidae (Odonata), JAL Watson, Invertebrate Taxonomy 5(2) 289 – 441, 1991<\/em>, un .pdf pour 60$. Je m’en passerai donc…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On doit donc se contenter de la monographie succincte (7 lignes et demi) dans The complete field guide to Dragonflies of Australia (Theischinger & Hawking). Elle permet de l’identifier avec un \u00e9l\u00e9ment singulier sous la forme de 2 touffes de soies sous les segments 7 et 8 qui, associ\u00e9 aux motifs thoraciques, permettent de le s\u00e9parer des 6 autres Hemigomphus, moins sombres sur la face lat\u00e9rale du thorax. Seul H. gouldi pr\u00e9sente ces 2 touffes de soies, mais ce Southern vicetail est un sudiste absent du Queensland.
Sur la photo ci-dessous \u00e0 gauche (cliquer !), il faut noter la tr\u00e8s curieuse dent ou \u00e9pine \u00e0 la base du cercoides (appendice anal sup\u00e9rieur), dent qui pointe vers le bas, venant croiser la base du cerque (appendice anal inf\u00e9rieur), caract\u00e9ristique du genre Hemigomphus. Noter \u00e9galement comme les cerques se terminent en crochet orient\u00e9 vers le haut, \u00e0 sommet noir.
Sur la photo inf\u00e9rieure on a une tr\u00e8s bonne vue des touffes de soies et du cerque droit).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il y a tout juste 40 minutes entre la premi\u00e8re photo de cette page et celle-ci ; on note l’\u00e9volution remarquable de la coloration, le changement d’apparence des ailes et des yeux.
Malheureusement, nous perdrons tr\u00e8s rapidement ce sujet apr\u00e8s cette derni\u00e8re photo.

C’est un habitant des ruisseaux et rivi\u00e8res de la for\u00eat pluviale, les Australiens l’ont nomm\u00e9 Rainforest vicetail.
Il est confin\u00e9 au nord du Queensland.

Nous avons eu une meilleure vue de la face lat\u00e9rale du thorax et de ses motifs avec la seule tr\u00e8s jeune femelle Hemigomphus theischingeri rencontr\u00e9e ; la ligne sombre m\u00e9diane, qui d\u00e9marre juste en arri\u00e8re de l’implantation de l’aile ant\u00e9rieure (en avant du stigmate<\/a> m\u00e9tathoracique) est compl\u00e8te, elle est interrompue pour tous les autres Hemigomphus.

Mais, bien s\u00fbr, le plus spectaculaire est cette \u00e9norme corne qu’elle porte sur le front ! Elle est pourtant d\u00e9crite comme \u00ab\u00a0mince\u00a0\u00bb alors que celle de sa cousine H. comitatus est qualifi\u00e9e de robuste !
Le r\u00f4le qu’elle joue lors de la capture du m\u00e2le (puisque le m\u00e2le va la saisir \u00e0 cet endroit pr\u00e9cis avec ses appendices anaux) serait int\u00e9ressant \u00e0 conna\u00eetre.

Sur cette derni\u00e8re photo, m\u00eame lieu et date, on constate que l’angle de prise de vue est trompeur, et ne permet pas de voir l’\u00e9pine frontale.

Hemigomphus (1), du grec –hemi<\/em>, pour moiti\u00e9<\/em> et –gomphus<\/em>, qui vient, lui, d\u2019un mot grec qui signifie\u00a0cheville<\/em>\u00a0ou\u00a0boulon<\/em>, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la forme de l\u2019abdomen (de la plupart des esp\u00e8ces), qui ressemble \u00e0 une\u00a0cheville pour assembler les bateaux<\/em>. Hemigomphus a \u00e9t\u00e9 construit comme Hemianax, signifiant la proximit\u00e9 avec le genre Gomphus.
Theischingeri, est un hommage de Watson \u00e0 son coll\u00e8gue d’origine autrichienne G\u00fcnther Theischinger, fin entomologiste et odonatologue australien, co-auteur du livre d’identification auquel je fais si souvent r\u00e9f\u00e9rence, descripteur de 4 genres et de 34 esp\u00e8ces d’odonates australiens, grand sp\u00e9cialiste de la taxonomie larvaire.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
