S’il est commun d’observer des sc\u00e8nes de pr\u00e9dation par Coenagrion mercuriale, il s’agit le plus souvent, comme pour tous les petits zygopt\u00e8res, de proies minuscules que l’on a bien du mal \u00e0 identifier (sauf \u00e0 capturer l’odonate pour identifier la victime, et encore…). J’ai d’ailleurs fait ce m\u00eame jour, des photos de Coenagrion mercuriale m\u00e2le dont les ailes des victimes s’agitent avec le mouvement de leurs mandibules.
La sc\u00e8ne se d\u00e9roule dans la Ni\u00e8vre o\u00f9 je suis parti observer Coenagrion ornatum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mais cette fois-ci, l’identification de la proie, bien plus grosse que cette courageuse femelle, est facile \u00e0 orienter, il s’agit de Ephemera sp.<\/em>, il est malheureusement impossible d’aller \u00e0 l’esp\u00e8ce.
Pourquoi le choix d’un tel repas, qui s’av\u00e8rera finalement infructueux ? L’explication est sans doute assez simple, mais n\u00e9cessite quelques pr\u00e9cisions m\u00e9t\u00e9orologiques\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lorsque je suis arriv\u00e9 dans ce profond foss\u00e9, \u00e0 l’abri du vent, \u00e0 14\u00a0h\u00a015, la chaleur \u00e9tait tr\u00e8s marqu\u00e9e, j’ai aper\u00e7u quelques \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8res pos\u00e9s, mais \u00e0 15 heures les premi\u00e8res gouttes d’orage m’ont chass\u00e9 vers ma voiture. \u00c0 16 heures, quand je suis revenu, de tr\u00e8s nombreux \u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8res, sans doute des centaines, pratiquaient leur dance favorite, succession de mont\u00e9es et de descentes verticales. Ils \u00e9taient extr\u00eamement visibles, et extr\u00eamement nombreux. C’est certainement le choix le plus facile et le comportement ostentatoire de l’insecte qui a guid\u00e9 cette femelle.
Malgr\u00e9 mon approche tr\u00e8s prudente (je voulais faire des photos de la face dorsale de l’abdomen de l’\u00e9ph\u00e9m\u00e8re), j’ai d\u00fb apeurer cette femelle qui en s’enfuyant a laiss\u00e9 \u00e9chapper sa proie. J’en ai profit\u00e9 pour faire une photo qui montre le bord post\u00e9rieur de son pronotum (color\u00e9) en \u00ab\u00a0mouette\u00a0\u00bb afin de confirmer l’identification. D’ailleurs sur ce site, il n’y avait pas d’autre Coenagrionidae que Coenagrion mercuriale et C. ornatum, c’est dire si l’habitat est lui-m\u00eame d\u00e9terminant et discriminant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
