Comme on peut le deviner, nous n’avons rencontr\u00e9 Hemicordulia australiae, Australian Emerald, qu’en vol.
On l’identifie assez facilement en associant ses appendices anaux assez \u00e9cart\u00e9s et courb\u00e9s vers le bas avec son motif abdominal. Son abdomen n’est pas dilat\u00e9 comme celui de H. continentalis, il ne pr\u00e9sente pas les motifs en trou de serrure<\/em> de H. intermedia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rambur dans sa description originale l’avait appel\u00e9 Cordulia australiae, il ne pr\u00e9cise pas sa taille exacte, mais indique \u00ab\u00a0qu’elle est un peu plus petite que l’Aenea<\/em> (Cordulia aenea)\u00a0\u00bb, il fait donc sans doute moins de 50 mm.
Il se plait sur les rivi\u00e8res, les parties calmes de celles-ci, les \u00e9tangs, mais aussi les lacs. Les adultes se rencontrent \u00e0 distance de leur lieu d’\u00e9mergence. Nous avons rencontr\u00e9 cet unique individu sur une toute petite mare, en descendant de Emerald Cascades, dans un milieu semi-aride et rocheux, une pi\u00e8ce d’eau d’environ 4 m\u00b2.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

En Australie, Hemicordulia australiae est pr\u00e9sent sur toute la r\u00e9gion c\u00f4ti\u00e8re de l’est, plus abondant au sud, atteignant pratiquement l’Australie m\u00e9ridionale. Mais, on le retrouve \u00e9galement \u00e0 l’extr\u00eame sud-ouest de l’Australie occidentale.
En dehors de l’Australie continentale, il atteint la Nouvelle-Z\u00e9lande, Bali et les Petites \u00eeles de la Sonde.

Hemicordulia (1), du grec –hemi<\/em> qui signifie –moiti\u00e9<\/em> et de Cordulia<\/em> qui vient du mot grec\u00a0–kordyle<\/em>\u00a0signifiant\u00a0massue\u00a0<\/em>ou\u00a0gourdin<\/em>\u00a0par allusion \u00e0 la forme de l\u2019abdomen du m\u00e2le. Mais, il faut prendre pas prendre -hemi dans son sens litt\u00e9ral, il est l\u00e0 pour indiquer la parent\u00e9 \u00e9troite avec le genre Cordulia dont il se distingue par des d\u00e9tails de nervation que je ne peux \u00e9videmment pas montrer sur mes photos…
Australiae est un g\u00e9nitif et signifie –d’Australie<\/em> et Rambur pr\u00e9cise que le sp\u00e9cimen qu’il d\u00e9crit provient de la \u00ab\u00a0Collection de M. Marchal et indiqu\u00e9e de la Nouvelle-Hollande\u00a0\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
