Ce tandem d’Indolestes insularis est mon seul contact avec cette esp\u00e8ce, la rencontre a \u00e9t\u00e9 assez br\u00e8ve et les partenaires \u00e9taient tr\u00e8s mal plac\u00e9s pour nous, pas sur le m\u00eame plan et trop loin. Impossible de les approcher, car ce rameau sortait d’un amonc\u00e8lement de branchages qui pourrissaient dans l’eau.
Il est certainement peu commun parce que l’on ne trouve qu’une cinquantaine d’observations depuis 2017 sur l’application Inaturalist.
Il a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crit sous le nom d’Austrolestes insularis par Tillyard dans On some new and rare Australian Agrionidae (Odonata). Proceedings of the Linnean Society of New South Wales<\/a> 37(1912): 404-479<\/em> et dans ce document il pr\u00e9cise que le m\u00e2le mesure 37 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

4 Indolestes sont pr\u00e9sents en Australie, et Indolestes insularis s’en distingue par la pauvret\u00e9 des marques noires qu’il porte sur le thorax (hormis la bande dorsale), juste un petit trait sombre \u00e0 la partie ant\u00e9rieure de l’\u00e9pisterne m\u00e9sothoracique<\/a><\/em>, ceci pour les m\u00e2les et les femelles.
Les Australiens le nomment Northern ringtail.

On le trouve sur des mares ou \u00e9tangs comme ici, mais aussi sur les parties tr\u00e8s calmes des rivi\u00e8res (pools<\/em>).
Sa distribution le limite \u00e0 la r\u00e9gion c\u00f4ti\u00e8re du Queensland, jusqu’au d\u00e9troit de Torres, le nord du Territoire du Nord et l’extr\u00eame nord de l’Australie-Occidentale.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Indolestes<\/strong> (1) ; du latin\u00a0indus<\/em>,\u00a0indien<\/em>\u00a0+\u00a0lestes<\/em>\u00a0: les 3 esp\u00e8ces que Fraser a plac\u00e9es dans ce nouveau genre de Lestidae avaient \u00e9t\u00e9 collect\u00e9es en Inde. Lestes a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Leach (1815) et vient du mot grec \u03bb\u03b7\u03c3\u03c4\u03b7\u03c3 qui signifie voleur ou pirate, tr\u00e8s vraisemblablement en raison de la forme des appendices anaux qui \u00e9voque le coutelas courb\u00e9 des pirates.
Insularis<\/strong>, du latin –insularis<\/em>, qui se rapporte \u00e0 une \u00eele. Tillyard nous dit dans le document d\u00e9j\u00e0 cit\u00e9 que l’individu d\u00e9crit, fournit par Mr. H. Elgner a \u00e9t\u00e9 captur\u00e9 sur l’\u00eele Banks du d\u00e9troit de Torr\u00e8s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
