Si les m\u00e2les ont un abdomen spectaculairement rouges, les Rhodothemis lieftincki femelles sont tr\u00e8s \u00e9l\u00e9gantes malgr\u00e9 leur abdomen un peu large. D’une teinte brun ocr\u00e9, elles pr\u00e9sentent diff\u00e9rents motifs blancs sur le thorax, l’abdomen et le front. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Si une zone claire n’est pas rare entre les ailes, je pense que je n’avais jamais vu de telle bande blanche sur le front d’un odonate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur la photo ci-dessus \u00e0 gauche, \u00e0 la jonction du 8\u00b0 et 9\u00b0 segment abdominal, on observe la saillie mod\u00e9r\u00e9e de la lame vulvaire, \u00e9l\u00e9ment de l’ovipositeur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rhodothemis (1) est compos\u00e9 du grec –rhodos<\/em> pour –rose<\/em> et de Themis<\/em>. Themis, \u2013 d\u00e9esse grecque de l\u2019ordre et de la justice, a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 de nombreuses fois depuis Hagen (1861), et Ris a suivi la mode en 1909 quand il a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce genre. Le nom de la d\u00e9esse de l\u2019ordre est particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la taxonomie, science qui vise \u00e0 d\u00e9crire et ordonner les familles, genres et esp\u00e8ces.
Mais, pourquoi \u00e9voquer la couleur rose pour des sujets rouges, cela reste un myst\u00e8re. \u00c0 moins qu’il n’ait eu en main que des sujets en cours de maturation…

Lieftincki est un hommage \u00e0 M.A. Lieftinck (1904-1985) qui a accompli un travail monumental en odonatologie, sa contribution \u00e0 la taxonomie odonatologique comprend 22 genres et 592 esp\u00e8ces et sous-esp\u00e8ces !<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Si nous avons rencontr\u00e9 tr\u00e8s souvent Rhodothemis lieftincki, la photo ci-dessous illustre le seul accouplement que j’ai observ\u00e9. Il est toujours int\u00e9ressant d’observer des accouplements ou des tandems d’esp\u00e8ces que l’on a jamais rencontr\u00e9es: cela permet de s’assurer que les femelles sont bien identifi\u00e9es !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 droite ci-dessus, c’est un Pseudagrion ignifer femelle qui fait les frais de l’app\u00e9tit de ce m\u00e2le Red arrow.
Les libellules sont victimes de leurs cong\u00e9n\u00e8res, mais bien plus souvent des araign\u00e9es, et c’est une femelle Argiope radon, accompagn\u00e9e de son m\u00e2le, qui a soign\u00e9 l’emballage de ce m\u00e2le, gardant ce repas pour plus tard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
