Austrogomphus prasinus est proche de son cousin A. amphiclitus<\/a>, il porte les m\u00eames motifs abdominaux. Il s'en s\u00e9pare par la forme des appendices anaux, qui montrent une branche externe pointue et une interne arrondie (grossi\u00e8rement conique pour A. amphiclitus<\/a>). La marque noire incompl\u00e8te qui na\u00eet sous l'aile ant\u00e9rieure et se dirige vers l'avant est plus grossi\u00e8re et large, moins nette. Enfin, les 2 marques jaunes (2 points et un trait) en avant du m\u00e9sothorax (juste en arri\u00e8re de la t\u00eate) sont presque de m\u00eame taille. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est aussi beaucoup plus commun, nous l'avons rencontr\u00e9 sur au moins 8 sites diff\u00e9rents.
Son nom australien est Lemmon-tipped hunter ce qui donnerait \"chasseur \u00e0 l'extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 jaune citron<\/em>\", hunter\/chasseur<\/em> \u00e9tant le nom de genre des Austrogomphus (je rappelle que pour A. amphiclitus c'est Pale hunter, le \"chasseur p\u00e2le<\/em>\"). Je ne vois franchement aucune diff\u00e9rence dans l'intensit\u00e9 ou la faiblesse de la coloration claire de ces 2 odonates et en tout cas rien qui puisse permettre de les diff\u00e9rencier.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans \"Descriptions of three new species of Austrogomphus (Neuroptera: Odonata)\", Tillyard mesure le m\u00e2le \u00e0 43 mm et la femelle \u00e0 47 mm.
Il est int\u00e9ressant de lire la description qu'en fait Tillyard : pour lui le thorax est noir et porte des marques vertes. Bien s\u00fbr, cela para\u00eet \u00e9trange au regard des photos ci-dessus, o\u00f9 moi, je le vois jaune avec de marques noires. Mais il existe certainement 2 formes, car les photos ci-dessous sont bien mieux accord avec sa description.
Noter cependant la ligne noire compl\u00e8te sur la suture m\u00e9tapleurale<\/a> qui est s\u00fbrement un autre indice qui permet de le diff\u00e9rencier de A. amphiclitus. C'est un sujet plus sombre et il ne montre pas la petite marque claire lat\u00e9rale sur le 8\u00b0 segment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c0 chaque fois, nous l'avons rencontr\u00e9 pr\u00e8s de rivi\u00e8res, aux rives bois\u00e9es, ce qui constitue son biotope habituel.
Sa distribution est limit\u00e9e au nord-est du Queensland, au nord de Townsville.

Les femelles sont identifiables gr\u00e2ce aux m\u00eames d\u00e9tails : les 2 taches jaunes sur le pronotum de taille peu diff\u00e9rente, la forme en chaussette<\/em>, assez large, qui d\u00e9marre sous l'aile ant\u00e9rieure, la ligne presque compl\u00e8te sur la suture m\u00e9tapleurale.
La photo ci-dessous \u00e0 droite montre une jeune femelle, dont la coloration va encore \u00e9voluer, noter en particulier la couleur des yeux.

La t\u00eate des odonates est capable, comme on le voit ci-dessous, d'une tr\u00e8s grande amplitude de rotation ! Elle ne tourne peut-\u00eatre pas \u00e0 360\u00b0, mais pas loin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Austrogomphus (1) est un compos\u00e9 du latin Auster<\/em> signifiant Vent du sud, <\/em>ici sud<\/em>, comme dans austral<\/em> ou\u2026 Australie<\/em> \u2013 et de Gomphus<\/em> qui vient, lui, d\u2019un mot grec qui signifie cheville<\/em> ou boulon<\/em>, en r\u00e9f\u00e9rence \u00e0 la forme de l\u2019abdomen (de la plupart des esp\u00e8ces), qui ressemble \u00e0 une cheville pour assembler les bateaux<\/em>. Il est ainsi d\u00e9fini un genre de Gomphus australiens.
Prasinus, du latin -prasinus<\/em>, qui vient lui-m\u00eame d'un mot grec signifiant vert-poireau<\/em>. Tillyard nous dit d'ailleurs [d\u00e9crivant un sujet vert !] que c'est le moins proche<\/em> des autres [Austrogomphus] et que c'est le seul donc les couleurs ne sont pas purement jaunes et noires.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
