Nososticta koolpinyah est un Platycnemididae noir avec une tache caract\u00e9ristique bleue ou verd\u00e2tre, en forme de virgule nettement concave sur l’\u00e9pisterne m\u00e9sothoracique<\/a>. Ses appendices anaux sont de la m\u00eame couleur alors que l’abdomen semble enti\u00e8rement noir. Les ailes sont souvent ambr\u00e9es.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il mesure en moyenne 33 mm pour un abdomen de 27,5 mm.
Il habite les petits ruisseaux en for\u00eat humide, souvent dans des zones o\u00f9 la canop\u00e9e ne laisse pas passer beaucoup de lumi\u00e8re.
Son nom australien est Koolpinyah Threadtail<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans la r\u00e9gion de Darwin, il est tr\u00e8s proche de Nososticta coelestina dont la marque thoracique est normalement plus \u00e9tendue, mais qui surtout montre un anneau vraiment clair entre chaque segment abdominal, alors que ceux de notre esp\u00e8ce, quand ils sont pr\u00e9sents, sont marron.
On note la coloration blanch\u00e2tre plut\u00f4t que bleue lorsque les sujets sont jeunes, et l’apex des ailes pointu<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il est end\u00e9mique du nord du Territoire du Nord, et habite une zone tr\u00e8s limit\u00e9e, l’\u00eele Melville et le territoire continental adjacent.
IUCN Red List<\/a>

Les femelles montrent une marque thoracique tr\u00e8s limit\u00e9e, souvent incompl\u00e8te, pointill\u00e9e, la plus faible de tous les Nososticta australiens, leur abdomen est \u00e9galement sombre, sans marque claire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’ovipositeur est massif, bien visible et atteint l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 du c\u00f4ne terminal de l’abdomen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nososticta (1) est issu de 2 mots grecs, le premier, dont on retrouve la racine en fran\u00e7ais dans nosocomial<\/em>, par exemple, signifiant maladie<\/em> et le second sticta<\/em>, signifiant marqu\u00e9, ce qui pour les odonates se rapporte aux pt\u00e9rostigmas. Cette \u00ab maladie \u00bb est une \u00e9nigme et il n\u2019y a pas d\u2019indication dans la description de l\u2019esp\u00e8ce sur laquelle le nom de genre est bas\u00e9, Nososticta solida.
Koolpinyah est tout simplement le nom de la localit\u00e9, \u00e0 l’est de Darwin, o\u00f9 l’holotype<\/a> a \u00e9t\u00e9 pr\u00e9lev\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
