Nannophlebia mudginberri est encore une raret\u00e9 sur laquelle il y a peu de donn\u00e9es, peu de photos, au point que son identification a \u00e9t\u00e9 un peu plus longue. D’autant que la description figurant dans The Complete Field Guide to Dragonflies of Australia<\/em> par G\u00fcnther Theischinger et John Hawking peut appara\u00eetre erron\u00e9e ; il est en effet mentionn\u00e9 (comme crit\u00e8re d’identification) que le quatri\u00e8me segment abdominal porte 2 marques jaunes, l’une centrale et l’autre dans la moiti\u00e9 basale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Or, comme on le constate \u00e9galement ci-dessus, ce n’est pas le cas. Il est vraisemblable que la description de l’esp\u00e8ce ait \u00e9t\u00e9 faite \u00e0 partir d’une femelle, et que seules les femelles montrent nettement ces 2 taches, comme on le verra plus bas. D’ailleurs dans le livre d\u00e9j\u00e0 cit\u00e9, la photo d’illustration est une femelle. Il est aussi possible, comme on le verra plus bas pour les femelles, que ce crit\u00e8re soit tr\u00e8s variable, l’anneau ou la tache serait parfois tr\u00e8s discret, quasi invisible.
Si je montre des photos comparant N. eludens et mudginberri, c’est qu’en l’absence de cette 2\u00b0 tache, l’identification se portait vers N. eludens. Mais l’examen des thorax et des appendices anaux m’a fait abandonner cette piste.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On note le dessin complexe en arri\u00e8re du thorax pour N. mudginberri, o\u00f9 N. eludens montre une simple ligne noire verticale incompl\u00e8te. Ce dessin est compl\u00e8tement en accord avec ce que montre Theischinger et Hawking dans leur livre et est d\u00e9terminant dans l’identification. Il faut aussi noter la diff\u00e9rence de taille des hamuli<\/a>, sous le 2\u00b0 segment, tr\u00e8s visibles et ac\u00e9r\u00e9s pour le Top end archtail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On remarque facilement la taille diff\u00e9rente de l’anneau jaune sur le 7\u00b0 segment. Celui de N. eludens est discret et m\u00eame parfois absent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n


Les appendices anneaux de N. eludens sont relativement droits, plut\u00f4t bomb\u00e9s et concaves vers le bas, ceux de N. mudginberri sont recourb\u00e9s vers le haut.

Nous nous trouvions alors en Australie-Occidentale, o\u00f9, en principe, N. eludens n’est pas pr\u00e9sent, et o\u00f9 Nannophlebia mudginberri n’est connu sur un seul site, mais \u00e0 quelques centaines de kilom\u00e8tres plus \u00e0 l’ouest. Ce nouveau site est plus proche de son implantation principale, qui est le nord du Territoire du Nord.

En agrandissant fortement, et en \u00e9clairant la photo ci-dessus \u00e0 droite, on observe peut-\u00eatre une \u00e9bauche d’anneau sur le quatri\u00e8me segment…<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Il habite les ruisseaux et petites rivi\u00e8res, et c’est le long de l’une d’elles que nous les avons trouv\u00e9s \u00e0 Emma Gorge, 2 m\u00e2les et une femelle. Sa taille exacte m’est inconnue, c’est un minuscule Libellulidae et son cousin N. eludens mesure 28 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles pr\u00e9sentent le m\u00eame pattern thoracique. Mais, comme mentionn\u00e9 plus haut, elles portent un anneau jaune suppl\u00e9mentaire<\/a> sur le 4\u00b0 segment. Il est tr\u00e8s discret sur la photo de gauche, il est donc possible qu’il soit encore plus discret pour certains m\u00e2les, plus \u00e9vident pour d’autres, expliquant la description de Theischinger et Watson.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Ci-dessous les 2 photos montrent la m\u00eame femelle que ci-dessus, pourtant l’anneau jaune n’est pas visible sur la photo de gauche, ceci pour souligner le fait qu’il peut facilement passer inaper\u00e7u.
La photo de droite est un coup de chance, cette femelle est juste en d\u00e9collage et sur les 2 clich\u00e9s que j’ai faits, l’un \u00e9tait assez correct.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour ces 2 femelles rencontr\u00e9es dans le Parc National de Kakadu, au sud de Jabiru, dans le Territoire du Nord, le fameux anneau jaune est beaucoup plus visible sur celle de gauche, incomplet \u00e0 droite…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nannophlebia (1) est compos\u00e9 d\u2019un mot grec signifiant nain<\/em>, et de phlebia<\/em>, pour veine<\/em> (nervure). Selys a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce nom de genre en signalant qu\u2019il est tr\u00e8s proche de Nannophya \u00e0 l\u2019exception de la veine basale.
Mudginberri est le nom d’une station, juste au nord de Jabiru (Territoire du Nord), o\u00f9, je suppose, a \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9 le sujet de r\u00e9f\u00e9rence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
