Neurothemis oligoneura est un Libellulidae que nous avons rencontr\u00e9 2 jours, bri\u00e8vement, autour de Mataranka (Territoire du Nord). Il est facile \u00e0 identifier avec ses larges marques alaires sombres et ne peut \u00eatre confondu avec aucun autre odonate en Australie.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour sa taille, Brauer nous dit, dans \u00ab\u00a0Ueber den Dimorphismus der Weibchen in der Libellulinen-Gattung Neurothemis\u00a0\u00bb. Verhandlungen der Zoologisch-Botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien (en allemand ). 17: 970\u2013976 [976], qu’il est presque aussi grand que Neurothemis palliata, mais il ne donne pas, dans ce document, la taille de N. palliata… Je l’estime \u00e0 40 mm, environ.
[Finalement, un peu plus tard, sur un autre document, \u00ab\u00a0Beschreibung neuer exotischer Libellen aus den Gattungen Neurothemis, Libellula, Diplax, Celithemis und Tramea\u00a0\u00bb. Verhandlungen der Zoologisch-Botanischen Gesellschaft in Wien (en Allemand). 17: 3\u201326 [20]<\/em>, Brauer mentionne 38 \u00e0 41 mm pour N. palliata.]<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous avons rencontr\u00e9 le Spotted Grasshawk<\/em> dans un environnement de mares et de mar\u00e9cages forestiers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Comme on va le voir plus bas, et comme presque toujours pour les Libellulidae, les m\u00e2les immatures ressemblent aux femelles. L’\u00e9volution de leur coloration, du jaune lumineux au noir est assez \u00e9tonnante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa distribution est localis\u00e9e et morcel\u00e9e, dans le nord du Territoire du Nord, l’extr\u00eame nord du Queensland et la Papouasie Nouvelle-Guin\u00e9e.

Comme souvent encore, la coloration alaire des femelles est moins intense, mais il vaut mieux regarder les appendices anaux pour confirmer leur sexe !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Neurothemis (1), du grec neuro pour –nerf <\/em>ou plut\u00f4t –nervure des ailes<\/em>, en entomologie, et de Themis \u2013 d\u00e9esse grecque de l\u2019ordre et de la justice, a \u00e9t\u00e9 utilis\u00e9 de nombreuses fois depuis Hagen (1861). Le nom de la d\u00e9esse de l\u2019ordre est particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9 \u00e0 la taxonomie, science qui vise \u00e0 d\u00e9crire et ordonner les familles, genres et esp\u00e8ces. Brauer a cr\u00e9\u00e9 ce nom de genre en 1867 pour remplacer le genre Polyneura, cr\u00e9\u00e9 par Rambur en 1842, car ce dernier \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 utilis\u00e9 chez les H\u00e9mipt\u00e8res. Ce nom de genre \u00e9tait destin\u00e9 \u00e0 insister sur le grand nombre de cellules de leurs ailes.
Oligoneura peut sembler paradoxal car oligo<\/em> signifie –peu<\/em> en grec et neura<\/em> signifie –nerf<\/em> ou –nervation alaire<\/em>, ce qui impliquerait que la nervation est pauvre. L’explication repose sur le fait que l’autre Neurothemis australien, Neurothemis stigmatizans, pr\u00e9sente une nervation beaucoup plus riche et dense.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
