Pseudagrion lucifer est un Coenagrionidae sombre, facile \u00e0 identifier pour peu qu’on aper\u00e7oive sa face d’un orange br\u00fblant. Sur une vue dorsale, il est \u00ab\u00a0sans int\u00e9r\u00eat<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0, mais d\u00e8s que l’on aper\u00e7oit sa face… on est conquis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ces photos sont faites dans le Territoire-du-Nord ; elles pourraient aussi bien avoir \u00e9t\u00e9 faites dans le nord du Queensland, car on y trouve une esp\u00e8ce tellement voisine, Pseudagrion ignifer, que toutes 2 ont \u00e9t\u00e9 confondues jusqu’en 1997, quand G. Theischinger a publi\u00e9 \u00ab\u00a0\u00a0\u00bbThe Pseudagrion ignifer complex from Australia (Odonata: Zygoptera: Coenagrionidae)\u00a0\u00bb (PDF). Linzer Biologische Beitr\u00e4ge. 29 (2): 799\u2013805 [803].

Heureusement, les 2 esp\u00e8ces (et une autre forme dite aureum<\/em>, je n’aime pas le terme sous-esp\u00e8ce), sont allopatriques ; elles ne se fr\u00e9quentent pas, car des barri\u00e8res g\u00e9ographiques s’y opposent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les m\u00e2les matures sont finalement faciles \u00e0 s\u00e9parer par la pruinosit\u00e9 des derniers segments de P. ignifer, absente pour Pseudagrion lucifer. Encore faut-il savoir que cette pruinosit\u00e9 signe bien l’appartenance \u00e0 une autre esp\u00e8ce et n’est pas seulement un caract\u00e8re induit par le vieillissement de l’individu…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est un habitant des ruisseaux et petites rivi\u00e8res et comme le soulignent malheureusement mes photos, il ne d\u00e9daigne pas l’ombre…
De plus, je l’ai trouv\u00e9 difficile \u00e0 approcher, alors que son cousin au Queensland, 8 mois plus tard, ne posera pas de probl\u00e8me pour poser devant l’objectif.
En Australie, il est connu sous le nom de Citrine-headed riverdamsel<\/em>, ce qui renvoie bien s\u00fbr \u00e0 sa face rouge orang\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On rencontre donc Pseudagrion lucifer dans le nord du Territoire du Nord, dans l’extr\u00eame nord-est de l’Australie-Occidentale, mais aussi dans la p\u00e9ninsule de York, tout au nord du Queensland.

Les femelles sont compl\u00e8tement diff\u00e9rentes, elles ne montrent pas de pruinosit\u00e9 et la coloration orange de leur face est beaucoup moins spectaculaire. Leur identification se fait par \u00e9limination des autres femelles Pseudagrion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pseudagrion (1) du grec ancien,\u00a0pseudo<\/em>\u00a0\u2013faux, erron\u00e9,<\/em>\u00a0et d’agrion<\/em>, ceci, comme l\u2019\u00e9crit S\u00e9lys, pour t\u00e9moigner de la difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 s\u00e9parer ce genre des Agrion ; \u00ab\u00a0les Pseudagrions semblent tr\u00e8s voisins des vrais Agrions\u00a0\u00bb. Agrion, du grec\u00a0Agrios<\/em>\u2013\u00a0sauvage<\/em>, vivant dans les champs.
Theischinger, dans le document d\u00e9j\u00e0 cit\u00e9, explique pourquoi il l’a nomm\u00e9 ainsi : \u00ab\u00a0Name : lucifer = Latin for \u00ab\u00a0moming-star\u00a0\u00bb, referring to the bright face of the male.\u00a0\u00bb Du latin lucifer, pour \u00ab\u00a0\u00e9toile du matin\u00a0\u00bb, se r\u00e9f\u00e9rant \u00e0 la face lumineuse du m\u00e2le.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
