Pseudagrion ignifer est un presque sosie de Pseudagrion lucifer<\/a>, rencontr\u00e9 dans le Territoire du Nord. Ils ont tous les 2 la face orange vif et une bande ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rale verte, les c\u00f4t\u00e9s du thorax couvert de pruine blanch\u00e2tre \u00e0 maturit\u00e9.
Mais le Flame-headed riverdamsel<\/em> montre les 3 derniers segments \u00e9galement couverts de cette pruinosit\u00e9, comme on le constate sur ces photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tillyard nous dit<\/a> qu’il mesure environ 42 mm.
 Pseudagrion ignifer et lucifer ont \u00e9t\u00e9 confondus jusqu\u2019en 1997, quand G. Theischinger a publi\u00e9 \u00ab  \u00bbThe Pseudagrion ignifer complex from Australia (Odonata: Zygoptera: Coenagrionidae) \u00bb (PDF). Linzer Biologische Beitr\u00e4ge. 29 (2): 799\u2013805 [803]. Heureusement, les 2 esp\u00e8ces (et une autre forme dite aureum<\/em>, je n\u2019aime pas le terme sous-esp\u00e8ce), sont allopatriques ; elles ne se fr\u00e9quentent pas, car des barri\u00e8res g\u00e9ographiques s\u2019y opposent, ce qui facilite l’identification.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il fr\u00e9quente les ruisseaux, et ne se rencontre pas sur les eaux dormantes.
Sa distribution le restreint \u00e0 l’est du Queensland, jusqu’au nord de la Nouvelle-Galles du Sud.

Je n’ai photographi\u00e9 qu’un seul sujet immature ; il est identifiable par la similarit\u00e9 de la face lat\u00e9rale de son thorax avec celle des femelles, car ils sont \u00e9videmment tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rents des adultes… En effet, et c’est assez singulier pour permettre l’identification, 2 sutures thoraciques sont soulign\u00e9es de noir et convergent l’une vers l’autre en avant.
Sur la photo de droite, on devine cependant la face qui devient orange.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il n’y a rien de mieux pour identifier les femelles des Coenagrionidae (et de beaucoup d’autres familles) que de les voir en accouplement ou en tandem ; s’il y a parfois des erreurs d’appariement, elles sont tout de m\u00eame tr\u00e8s rares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sans le couple pr\u00e9c\u00e9dent j’aurais sans doute \u00e9t\u00e9 bien en peine d’identifier cette femelle isol\u00e9e, sur laquelle on retrouve les 2 lignes sombres thoracqieus convegentes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pseudagrion<\/strong> (1) du grec ancien,\u00a0pseudo<\/em>\u00a0\u2013faux, erron\u00e9,<\/em>\u00a0et d\u2019agrion<\/em>, ceci, comme l\u2019\u00e9crit S\u00e9lys, pour t\u00e9moigner de la difficult\u00e9 \u00e0 s\u00e9parer ce genre des Agrion ; \u00ab\u00a0les Pseudagrions semblent tr\u00e8s voisins des vrais Agrions\u00a0\u00bb. Agrion, du grec\u00a0Agrios<\/em>\u2013\u00a0sauvage<\/em>, vivant dans les champs.
Ignifer<\/strong>, du latin ignifer<\/em>, signifie \u00ab\u00a0qui est en feu, ardent\u00a0\u00bb. Tillyard dans sa description de la t\u00eate \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0…front brillant rust-colour.\u00a0\u00bb (front couleur rouille brillante).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
