Potamarcha congener m\u00e2le, Australie (NT), Emma Gorge, 26\/04\/2022<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Potamarcha congener, Libellulidae, est beaucoup plus commun en Asie qu’en Australie o\u00f9 nous ne l’avons aper\u00e7u que 2 fois : l’une dans le Territoire du Nord, l’autre dans le Queensland. On trouvera donc d’autres photos dans les pages Cambodge<\/a>, Laos<\/a>, Vietnam<\/a> et Malaisie<\/a>. Il mesure environ 44 mm.
Ci-dessus, c’est un sujet immature, encore jaune. Mais je n’avais jamais vu de sujet compl\u00e8tement couvert de pruine, tout bleu et noir, comme ci-dessous, ce qui justifie un de ses noms anglais, Yellow-tailed ashy skimmer. \u00c9tant donn\u00e9e son immense r\u00e9partition, il b\u00e9n\u00e9ficie de nombreux noms vernaculaires et on l’appelle aussi Common chaser ou Swampatcher.

Il se pla\u00eet en principe sur les eaux dormantes, mares, marais ou \u00e9tangs, mais sans doute aussi sur les zones calmes des rivi\u00e8res, et c’est sur la rive de celle qui parcourt Emma Gorge que nous l’avons observ\u00e9, perch\u00e9 assez haut dans un arbre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sa distribution s’\u00e9tend sur un territoire gigantesque, de l’est de l’Inde au sud de la Chine, jusqu’en Australie au sud.
En Australie, on le rencontre de l’extr\u00eame nord-est de l’Australie-Occidentale au sud du Queensland, en passant par le nord du Territoire du Nord.

\u00c9tymologie<\/strong>
Potamarcha<\/strong> (Karsch, 1890), du grec potamos<\/em> pour fleuve<\/em> et arch<\/em> pour chef<\/em>. Cette \u00e9tymologie reste myst\u00e9rieuse puisque l’esp\u00e8ce fr\u00e9quente plut\u00f4t les eaux stagnantes.
Congener<\/strong>, du latin congener<\/em>, signifie de la m\u00eame race<\/em>, du m\u00eame type<\/em>. Mais il est difficile de savoir de quelle esp\u00e8ce Rambur la trouvait proche dans la mesure o\u00f9 il trouvait le genre Libellula tr\u00e8s riche (il avait appel\u00e9 l’esp\u00e8ce Libellula congener) et l’avait divis\u00e9 en 12 groupes contenant des sous-groupes… Il est possible qu’il soit cong\u00e9n\u00e9rique <\/em>des membres du 8\u1d49 groupe, bien que dans sa description, il nous dise qu’elle est \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s de la m\u00eame taille que Libellula ferruginea, pourtant plac\u00e9e dans le 9\u1d49 groupe…<\/p>\n\n\n\n
