La d\u00e9couverte de Telephlebia tillyardi a \u00e9t\u00e9 un moment exceptionnel. Et si, pour une fois, je pr\u00e9sente d’abord la femelle, c’est que c’est elle que nous avons d’abord d\u00e9couverte dans un sous-bois assez dense, en cherchant \u00e0 longer le Davies Creek<\/a>, que nous explorions. Dans l’ombre, nous avons d\u00e9couvert cette merveille aux ailes somptueuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette premi\u00e8re femelle, nous en avons vu 2, s’est montr\u00e9e tr\u00e8s patiente, malgr\u00e9 les dizaines de flashes qu’elle a subi ; mais finalement, dans l’ombre et avec les branches \u00e0 tenter d’\u00e9carter du champ de vision, peu de photos sont vraiment bonnes…
Elle mesure de 70 \u00e0 75 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sur toutes mes photos, cette femelle montre un curieux motif sur l’\u0153il droit. Je ne l’ai pas remarqu\u00e9 en prenant les photos et je ne me suis donc pas plus approch\u00e9. Ce n’est pas un reflet, car il figure de la m\u00eame fa\u00e7on sur les photos de mes compagnons. Peut-\u00eatre l’\u0153il a-t-il \u00e9t\u00e9 griff\u00e9 par une rencontre malheureuse avec la v\u00e9g\u00e9tation ou un pr\u00e9dateur…
Noter aussi le stigmate<\/a> m\u00e9tathoracique tr\u00e8s visible sur la face lat\u00e9rale du thorax et la masse importante de la face qui se d\u00e9gage en avant des yeux.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

On ne trouve pas de d\u00e9tail \u00e0 propos de son comportement, sinon que c’est une esp\u00e8ce qui aime la p\u00e9nombre et vole plut\u00f4t \u00e0 la tomb\u00e9e de la nuit, d’o\u00f9 son nom local de Tropical evening darner<\/em>. Elle vit en for\u00eat le long des rivi\u00e8res, ce que nous avions facilement devin\u00e9…
Ci-dessous une autre femelle qui semble plus mature, car nettement plus sombre et color\u00e9e, avec des pt\u00e9rostigmas roses et toujours cet \u00e9tonnant d\u00e9crochage de la coloration au niveau du nodus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est une esp\u00e8ce rarement vue (hors les donn\u00e9es de notre \u00e9quipe, on trouve 14 observations depuis 2017 sur Inaturalist), \u00e0 la distribution tr\u00e8s limit\u00e9e au nord-est du Queensland, entre Ingham et Cooktown.

Nous n’avons vu qu’un seul m\u00e2le, le long de la Little Crystal Creek<\/a><\/em>, le 15 d\u00e9cembre 2022, une zone de transition entre la for\u00eat ouverte et la for\u00eat pluviale. Il est \u00e9galement magnifique et exhibe de spectaculaires appendices anaux clairs.
Noter la finesse du \u00b0 segment abdominal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

T. cyclops, un autre des 6 Telephlebia australiens, est aussi dans le Queensland, plus commun, mais aussi plus sudiste. Il s’en diff\u00e9rencie par la forme de la tache sur le front, l’\u00e9tendue de la coloration alaire, mais surtout par les appendices anaux sup\u00e9rieurs aux extr\u00e9mit\u00e9s qui tendent \u00e0 converger.
T. tryoni est tr\u00e8s proche de notre T. tillyardi, pr\u00e9sent aussi plus au sud, mais dont la coloration alaire ne recouvre pas l’hypertriangle des ailes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Telephlebia (1) (Selys, 1883), du grec tele<\/em>, \u00e0 distance<\/em> et phlebos<\/em>, veine<\/em> pour faire remarquer que la \u00ab\u00a0nervure sous costale [est] prolong\u00e9e au quatre ailes \u00e0 travers la veine du nodus, jusqu’\u00e0 la seconde [nervure] postcubitale\u00a0\u00bb.
