Gynacantha klagesi, Aeshnidae, ne m’a laiss\u00e9 sur cette session que quatre minutes pour l’admirer ; j’ai eu le temps de tourner un peu autour et il a disparu dans la for\u00eat.
Williamson nous pr\u00e9cise que la taille de l’abdomen est de 47 \u00e0 49 mm, sa taille totale est d’environ 62 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 en for\u00eat dense, dans une zone mar\u00e9cageuse, accompagn\u00e9 de Uracis siemensi<\/em> et infumata<\/em>, Inpabasis hubelli, et de plusieurs esp\u00e8ces de Metaleptobasis.

Quelques minutes auparavant, j’avais fait cette photo, qui donne une id\u00e9e du terrain sur lequel nous nous d\u00e9placions : un marais sur lequel sont jet\u00e9es quelques branches, par endroits, pour aider au franchissement des zones les plus difficiles. Une journ\u00e9e \u00e9prouvante, tant par la chaleur que par la difficult\u00e9 de la progression dans ce terrain ou les bottes s’enfoncent de fa\u00e7on in\u00e9gale et surprenante.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Noter la profonde encoche de la partie basale de l’aile qui cr\u00e9 un d\u00e9gagement pour ne pas frotter sur ses auricules<\/a> particuli\u00e8rement saillantes. Leur r\u00f4le, s’ils en ont un reste un myst\u00e8re. Ils participent en tout cas \u00e0 l’identification de cette esp\u00e8ce.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous l’avons heureusement retrouv\u00e9 une demi-heure plus tard en repassant au m\u00eame endroit ! Et finalement, ce n’est pas tellement une surprise, les Aeshnidae \u00e9tant cr\u00e9pusculaires, leur activit\u00e9 est r\u00e9duite dans la journ\u00e9e. C’est bien le m\u00eame, comme en t\u00e9moigne la pr\u00e9sence d’un petit amas clair pr\u00e8s du bord costal de l’aile ant\u00e9rieure gauche, peut-\u00eatre un hydracarien parasite.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On trouve peu de d\u00e9tails sur ce Gynacantha klagesi qui n’est pas observ\u00e9 souvent, comme le montre le faible nombre de photos disponibles sur le Web.

Il est cependant pr\u00e9sent dans les for\u00eats humides du nord du Br\u00e9sil, de l’est du P\u00e9rou et de la Colombie, au Suriname et en Guyane Fran\u00e7aise.

Ce n’est que plusieurs semaines apr\u00e8s la publication de cette page que j’ai aper\u00e7u cette curieuse \u00e9pine sur la face, plus pr\u00e9cis\u00e9ment sur l’anteclypeus<\/a>. Il n’y en a pas de mention dans la description de Williamson (1) ; il publie cette description en 1923, d’une esp\u00e8ce captur\u00e9e en 1917, et il est fort probable que cet appendice ait disparu en raison des conditions de transport ou de conservation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gynacantha<\/strong><\/em> est form\u00e9 de 2 mots grecs signifiant \u00ab femelle ou femme \u00bb et \u00ab \u00e9pine \u00bb soulignant l’\u00e9pine<\/em> que l\u2019on observe sous le 10\u00b0 segment abdominal des femelles des esp\u00e8ces de ce genre.

Klagesi<\/strong> est un hommage \u00e0 Samuel M. Klages (1875-1957), ornithologue et entomologiste amateur, grand collecteur d’animaux dans la premi\u00e8re moiti\u00e9 du XX\u00b0 si\u00e8cle. C’est ce que Williamson pr\u00e9cise dans \u00ab\u00a0Notes on American Species of Triacanthagyna and Gynacantha\u00a0\u00bb , University of Michigan, Museum of Zoology, July 2, 1923 (1).<\/p>\n\n\n\n
