Acanthagrion ascendens est un des quatre Acanthagrion que nous avons observ\u00e9s durant ce s\u00e9jour de prospection. C’est aussi le plus rare dans cette zone, nous ne l’avons rencontr\u00e9 qu’une seule fois, quelques minutes apr\u00e8s le d\u00e9but de cette prospection.
Certains de ces Acanthagrion sont tr\u00e8s proches et d’ailleurs Calvert en avait d’abord fait une sous-esp\u00e8ce de Acanthagrion gracile<\/a>, tout en notant des diff\u00e9rences sur la forme du 10\u1d49 segment et des appendices anaux. A. gracile n’est pas pr\u00e9sent dans la zone que nous avons \u00e9tudi\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Calvert pr\u00e9cise dans \u00ab\u00a0Contributions to a knowledge of the Odonata of the Neotropical region, exclusive of Mexico and Central America<\/em>\u00ab\u00a0, Annals of the Carnegie Museum, que son abdomen mesure 27 mm et son aile post\u00e9rieure 16 mm. Sa longueur totale est d’environ 32 mm.

Il appara\u00eet que les m\u00e2les sont d’abord bleus (comme les femelles), avant de devenir jaunes.

Plusieurs esp\u00e8ces d’Acanthagrion pr\u00e9senteraient ce spectaculaire changement de coloration et on s’est demand\u00e9 un temps s’il s’agissait d’une variation g\u00e9ographique ou ontog\u00e9nique ; en effet, les m\u00e2les bleus ne semblent pas si jeunes et de nombreuses esp\u00e8ces restent bleues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est un genre tr\u00e8s riche, 44 esp\u00e8ces en 2013 (voir ici<\/a>), tr\u00e8s difficile, et il faut parfois se r\u00e9f\u00e9rer \u00e0 la forme du p\u00e9nis pour s\u00e9parer les esp\u00e8ces.
Heureusement<\/em>, notre zone n’est pas trop riche et pour les identifier, on peut se fier \u00e0 leurs appendices anaux et \u00e0 leur coloration, en particulier des derniers segments. On le s\u00e9pare facilement de A. apicale (qui a 2 tr\u00e8s fortes protub\u00e9rances sur le S10), \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent, par le fait que ce dernier ne pr\u00e9sente pas de coloration bleue sur le segment 7. On le s\u00e9pare de A. phallicorne, commun dans la zone, car son expansion verticale<\/em> <\/a>sur le 10\u1d49 segment est tr\u00e8s peu ou pas bifide, un peu tronqu\u00e9e et non color\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les femelles sont bleues et encore plus difficiles que les m\u00e2les. Cependant, ces femelles se trouvaient avec les m\u00e2les A. ascendens et, ce jour, nous n’avons pas trouv\u00e9 d’autre esp\u00e8ce.
On trouve ces Acanthagrion sur les mares, les \u00e9tangs et les lacs, occasionnellement sur des eaux tr\u00e8s faiblement courantes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Son aire de distribution s’\u00e9tend \u00e0 l’est de la Cordill\u00e8re des Andes, du nord du Paraguay et de la Bolivie au sud, jusqu’au Br\u00e9sil, la Guyane fran\u00e7aise, le Suriname et le Venezuela au nord, en passant par le Suriname, le P\u00e9rou et la Colombie.

Acanthagrion<\/strong> (Selys), du grec akanthos<\/em>, \u00e9pine<\/em>, et agrion<\/em>, d\u00e9riv\u00e9 du grec signifiant sauvage et qui veut sans doute dire \u00ab\u00a0vivant dans les champs\u00a0\u00bb. Acanthagrion se r\u00e9f\u00e8re \u00e0 une \u00e9pine ac\u00e9r\u00e9e sous le S8 des femelles ; Selys dans le \u00ab\u00a0Synopsis des Agrionines, l\u00e9gion 5 <\/em>\u00a0\u00bb \u00e9crit : \u00ab\u00a0\u00c9pine vulvaire g\u00e9n\u00e9ralement aigu\u00eb \u00ab\u00a0. Il pr\u00e9cise \u00e9galement que cette caract\u00e9ristique est commune aux 8 sous-genres qu’il cr\u00e9e sous le genre Agrion.
J’imagine qu’ascendens<\/strong><\/em>, du latin ascendo<\/em>, monter, s’\u00e9lever<\/em>, se r\u00e9f\u00e8re \u00e0 la forme du S10, \u00e9tir\u00e9 vers le haut.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
