J’avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 rencontr\u00e9 Argia indicatrix (Coenagrionidae) au Panama<\/a> et au Costa Rica<\/a>. Il fait partie des 28 Argia que l’on est susceptible de rencontrer au P\u00e9rou, mais heureusement<\/em>, notre zone de prospection en contenait beaucoup moins.
Notre aire d’exploration \u00e9tait aussi moins riche pour cette esp\u00e8ce que nous n’avons rencontr\u00e9e qu’\u00e0 deux reprises, sans voir de femelle<\/a> ; elles sont pr\u00e9sent\u00e9es sur les pages consacr\u00e9es \u00e0 l’esp\u00e8ce en Am\u00e9rique Centrale<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

De toute fa\u00e7on, ce n’est pas un des plus difficiles \u00e0 identifier ; les ailes sont ambr\u00e9es, le thorax porte plusieurs bandes longitudinales dans diff\u00e9rentes teintes de bleu, souvent trois (quand la photo est bien expos\u00e9e !), l’abdomen est sombre \u00e0 l’exception du premier et deuxi\u00e8me segment et du neuvi\u00e8me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

C’est un des petits Argia avec seulement 29 mm (environ) de longueur totale (plus petit que notre Ischnura elegans).
Si nous l’avons rencontr\u00e9 en for\u00eat sur un ruisseau, il accepte aussi les zones mar\u00e9cageuses et m\u00eame des mares en milieu plus ouvert.
C’est une des rares esp\u00e8ces que nous avons rencontr\u00e9e \u00e0 la fois en zone inond\u00e9e\/inondable et sur la Terra Firme<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie <\/strong>
Dans la mythologie grecque,\u00a0Argia<\/strong> (Rambur, 1842) (1) est le nom de plusieurs personnages f\u00e9minins ; il ne faut pourtant pas chercher de lien, et il semble plut\u00f4t que Rambur ait choisi un nom de genre aussi pr\u00e8s que possible de\u00a0Agrion<\/em>, dont la nervation, dit-il, est similaire : \u00ab\u00a0par le pt\u00e9rostigma et les deux nervules du premier espace costal, ils se rapprochent des\u00a0Agrion<\/em>\u201d.
L’\u00e9tymologie de indicatrix<\/em><\/strong> est donn\u00e9e par Calvert (1) : \u00ab\u00a0The specific name indicatrix<\/em> is suggested by a resemblance of the superior appendage in oblique view (fig. 39s) to a hand with the index-finger extended. (le nom d’esp\u00e8ce indicatrix est sugg\u00e9r\u00e9 par une ressemblance, en vue oblique, entre l’appendice anal sup\u00e9rieur et une main avec l’index point\u00e9).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Encore une fois, si j’ai trouv\u00e9 le document de Calvert (1), c’est qu’il est cit\u00e9 par Rosser W. Garrison & Natalia Von Ellenrieder, dans Damselflies of the genus Argia (Odonata: Coenagrionidae) from Ecuador with descriptions of five new species, Zootaxa 4470 (1): 001\u2013069<\/em>. Ces auteurs citent toujours leurs multiples sources d’information, c’est un exemple remarquable et lorsque je cherche un document pour trouver le descripteur d’une esp\u00e8ce, je cherche toujours dans leurs r\u00e9f\u00e9rences ! Pour le Nouveau Monde, bien s\u00fbr.
Sinon, la bibliographie, quand on n’appartient pas \u00e0 une Universit\u00e9 ou un centre de recherche r\u00e9f\u00e9renc\u00e9 et subventionn\u00e9, est tr\u00e8s longue, difficile, souvent impossible ou co\u00fbteuse…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cette situation pourrait faire croire qu’ils \u00e9taient nombreux et peu farouches.
