Argia infumata est tout \u00e0 fait spectaculaire et unique parmi les Argia ; sa coloration orange et noire avec les deux derniers segments bleus, ses bandes ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rales discr\u00e8tes ou m\u00eame absentes, ses taches postoculaires bleues et ses ailes compl\u00e8tement fum\u00e9es font qu’il n’est pas besoin de se pencher sur ses appendices anaux pour l’identifier ou le s\u00e9parer d’un autre de ses 145 cousins du genre Argia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Si toutes les photos que je montre ont \u00e9t\u00e9 faites sur la Terra Firme (zones jamais inond\u00e9es par l’Amazone ou ses tributaires), nous l’avons aussi rencontr\u00e9 dans la zone inondable, mais mes clich\u00e9s sont trop mauvais… Il se pla\u00eet pourtant dans les flaques de lumi\u00e8res des petits ruisseaux en for\u00eat. Ci-dessus, il partageait le terrain avec Argia kokama, Psaironeura tenuissima et Polythore aurora, entre autres !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Rosser Garrison et Natalia Von Ellerieder nous disent (1) que les m\u00e2les mesurent 32.3 mm en moyenne et les femelles 30 mm.
Ils montrent \u00e9galement que le torus des m\u00e2les est unique parmi les Argia d’Am\u00e9rique du Sud et qu’il montre une extension en forme de doigt, aussi longue que les cerques (ex-cerco\u00efdes). Ce torus est pair, il y a donc 2 tori<\/em> qui sont 2 structures situ\u00e9es \u00e0 l’extr\u00e9mit\u00e9 sup\u00e9rieure du 10\u00b0 segment, le plus souvent aplaties distalement et qui interviennent certainement comme un contre appui lors de la capture des femelles. Voici ceux d’un Argia fissa<\/a> au Panama, bien aplatis \u00e0 l’apex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Si Selys, dans son \u00ab\u00a0Synopsis des Agrionines, 5\u00b0 l\u00e9gion<\/em>\u00a0\u00bb ne fait pas de remarque particuli\u00e8re concernant cette esp\u00e8ce, il en a n\u00e9anmoins r\u00e9alis\u00e9 une aquarelle reproduite dans le document d\u00e9j\u00e0 cit\u00e9 et dont on doit la pr\u00e9sence \u00e0 Karin Verspui & Marcel Wasscher qui l’ont scann\u00e9e \u00e0 l’Institut Royal des Sciences Naturelles de Belgique.
Une de leurs publications porte d’ailleurs sur ces aquarelles (2).<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Les observations de l’esp\u00e8ce sont pour l’instant restreintes au bassin de l’Amazone, le nord-est de la Bolivie, le nord du P\u00e9rou, l’est de la Colombie, le sud du Venezuela, et les \u00e9tats amazoniens du Br\u00e9sil (essentiellement Amazonas et Para). Le document d\u00e9j\u00e0 cit\u00e9 (1) donne une carte pr\u00e9cise de sa r\u00e9partition.

Je n’ai observ\u00e9 qu’une seule femelle, bien plus sombre que le m\u00e2le, sans tache postoculaire ni derniers segments bleus. Mais la ressemblance est \u00e9vidente avec les ailes tr\u00e8s color\u00e9es et la discr\u00e8te ligne ant\u00e9hum\u00e9rale orang\u00e9e.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dans la mythologie grecque,\u00a0Argia<\/strong>\u00a0(Rambur, 1842) (1) est le nom de plusieurs personnages f\u00e9minins ; il ne faut pourtant pas chercher de lien, et il semble plut\u00f4t que Rambur ait choisi un nom de genre aussi pr\u00e8s que possible de\u00a0Agrion<\/em>, dont la nervation, dit-il, est similaire : \u00ab\u00a0par le pt\u00e9rostigma et les deux nervules du premier espace costal, ils se rapprochent des\u00a0Agrion<\/em>\u201d.
Selys n’explicite l’origine du nom d’esp\u00e8ce, mais il \u00e9crit :\u00a0\u00bbAiles \u00e9troites, enti\u00e8rement color\u00e9es en brun un peu rouss\u00e2tre, moins intense chez la femelle.\u00a0\u00bb
Infumata<\/strong>, vient du latin\u00a0infumare<\/em>, \u2013s\u00e9cher \u00e0 la fum\u00e9e ou enfumer<\/em>, en rapport bien s\u00fbr avec la coloration brune des ailes<\/p>\n<\/div>
