Le nom d’esp\u00e8ce de Coeliccia scutellum (Platycnemididae) est directement li\u00e9 \u00e0 son apparence\u202f; il porte sur la face dorsale de son thorax une tache jaune vif, en forme de bouclier ou d’\u00e9cusson, traduction latine du mot scutellum<\/em> en latin.
Dans Taxonomy and nomenclature of some mainland SE-Asian Coeliccia species (Odonata, Platycnemididae) using micro-CT analysis, Zootaxa 4059 (2): 257\u2013276, PHILIP O. M. STEINHOFF & GABRIELE UHL<\/em>, on apprend que les sujets vietnamiens analys\u00e9s mesuraient entre 55 et 61 mm (abdomen 47 \u00e0 52 mm).
L’esp\u00e8ce a \u00e9t\u00e9 d\u00e9crite par Laidlaw en 1932 et \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque il comptait 27 esp\u00e8ces : en 2013 il y en avait d\u00e9j\u00e0 plus de 60 d\u00e9crites (80 en ao\u00fbt 2025) !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous avons observ\u00e9 ces sujets en descendant une piste dans le parc de Ba Vi, le chemin \u00e9tant bord\u00e9 par une falaise assez escarp\u00e9e, ruisselante par endroits et laissant passage de temps en temps \u00e0 des ruisseaux forestiers. Il se tenait en compagnie de Calicnemia miles, Coeliccia pyriformis, Indocnemis orang, tous aussi Plactynemididae que lui.

Un peu plus loin, j’ai pu faire quelques photos, au flash, de ce tandem, ce qui permet de constater que la femelle ne semble pas porter ce bouclier jaune sur le thorax\u202f; la marque jaune semble plus fine et plus longue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pour l’U.I.C.N ( International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources ) il ne serait pr\u00e9sent qu’au Vietnam, Laos et dans la province de Chine du Hainan.
