C&rsquo;est la seule rencontre de notre s\u00e9jour. Il est venu s&rsquo;abattre sur un pi\u00e8ge \u00e0 lumi\u00e8re plac\u00e9 dans une coursive du lodge, coursive \u00e0 l&rsquo;air libre, sur pilotis, pour la pr\u00e9server des inondations annuelles. Le lodge est situ\u00e9 entre la for\u00eat et la rivi\u00e8re Tahuayo et le pi\u00e8ge a attir\u00e9 des centaines de papillons de nuit et d&rsquo;autres insectes et araign\u00e9es.<br>C&rsquo;est un jeune m\u00e2le qui deviendra compl\u00e8tement noir. Il conserve les marques claires de son abdomen, les m\u00eames port\u00e9es par les femelles.<br><br>On peut le confondre avec Erythemis attala, mais l&rsquo;abdomen de ce dernier est plus large, plus massif et ne montre pas ces premiers segments dilat\u00e9s, suivis d&rsquo;un \u00e9tranglement.<br>L&rsquo;opinion actuelle est de penser que les odonates ne sont pas attir\u00e9s par la lumi\u00e8re, mais seulement perturb\u00e9s et ils adoptent alors un comportement \u00ab\u00a0irrationnel\u00a0\u00bb. Ce qui est aussi \u00e9tonnant est que cette esp\u00e8ce, selon une \u00e9tude de 2002 (1), n&rsquo;est ni pr\u00e9coce dans la journ\u00e9e et en tout cas pas tardive ; cette photo a \u00e9t\u00e9 faite \u00e0 21\u00a0h\u00a015.<br><br>Les Erythemis plebeja se plaisent sur les mares, les lacs, les canaux fournis en v\u00e9g\u00e9tation \u00e9mergente, les rivi\u00e8res \u00e0 courant lent.<br>Il mesure environ 45 mm.<br>Son aire de distribution s\u2019\u00e9tend du Texas et de la Floride \u00e0 l\u2019Argentine.<br><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iucnredlist.org\/species\/164992\/80693073\">IUCN Red List<\/a><br><br>J&rsquo;avais d&rsquo;ailleurs rencontr\u00e9 l&rsquo;esp\u00e8ce au<a href=\"https:\/\/www.meslibellules.fr\/blog\/2024\/04\/07\/erythemis-plebeja\/\"> Panama<\/a>, au <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meslibellules.fr\/voyages\/bresil\/erythemis-plebeja\/erythemis-plebeja-male.php\">Br\u00e9sil<\/a> et au <a href=\"https:\/\/www.meslibellules.fr\/blog\/2019\/12\/09\/mexique-erythemis-plebeja-burmeister-1839\/\">Mexique<\/a>. On y trouvera des photos de m\u00e2les matures et de femelles ainsi que d&rsquo;autre d\u00e9tail de comportement, en particulier dans les pages Panama.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Erythemis<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0(Hagen, 1861) (2) du grec\u00a0<em>e\u030drythr\u00f3s<\/em>, rouge et de Themis. Il faut supposer que si Hagen a choisi Themis, \u2013 d\u00e9esse grecque de l\u2019ordre et de la justice, c\u2019est \u00e0 la fois pour respecter la \u00ab\u00a0mode\u00a0\u00bb qui consistait \u00e0 donner un nom en rapport avec la mythologie, tr\u00e8s en vogue \u00e0 cette \u00e9poque, et parce qu\u2019elle est particuli\u00e8rement bien adapt\u00e9e \u00e0 la taxonomie, science qui vise \u00e0 d\u00e9crire et ordonner et classer les familles, genres et esp\u00e8ces. Quant au qualificatif \u00ab\u00a0rouge\u00a0\u00bb, il s\u2019explique par le fait que Hagen a inclus dans ce nouveau genre trois esp\u00e8ces dont l\u2019abdomen des m\u00e2les est rouge ou ferrugineux.<br><em><strong>Plebeja<\/strong><\/em>, du latin\u00a0<em>plebeius<\/em>, signifiant \u2013<em>pl\u00e9b\u00e9ien, du peuple, de la pl\u00e8be<\/em>. Plusieurs explications sont propos\u00e9es pour expliquer cette \u00e9tymologie ; sa couleur sombre rappellerait les v\u00eatements du bas peuple\u2026 mais Burmeister n\u2019a-t-il pas seulement voulu signaler que l\u2019esp\u00e8ce est tr\u00e8s commune (2) ?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:43px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"font-size:13px\">1- P. de Marco, A.O.
