Hemistigma albipunctum m\u00e2le est un superbe Libellulidae qui se couvre d’une pruinosit\u00e9 bleu quand il atteint la maturit\u00e9. Son abdomen est fin, l\u00e9g\u00e8rement dilat\u00e9 sur les segments 6 \u00e0 8, les appendices anaux sont clairs. Son front est largement noir m\u00e9tallique, brillant, respectant 2 petits triangles clairs sur les c\u00f4t\u00e9s.
Il ressemble \u00e0 un Orthetrum, mais ses pt\u00e9rostigmas sont bicolores, et ses ailes sont l\u00e9g\u00e8rement ambr\u00e9es dans leurs parties ant\u00e9rieures. Les m\u00e2les pr\u00e9sentent une tache sombre tout \u00e0 fait unique \u00e0 peu pr\u00e8s au milieu de l’espace sous-costal.
Il mesure environ 32 mm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Le genre Hemistigma n’est repr\u00e9sent\u00e9 que par deux esp\u00e8ces, la seconde est end\u00e9mique de Madagascar.
On peut assez facilement le confondre avec Papopleura deceptor dont les pt\u00e9rostigmas sont bicolores, \u00e9galement pr\u00e9sent en Namibie, mais que nous n’avons pas observ\u00e9. Cependant, ne dernier ne montre pas cette bande sombre dans l’espace sous costal, ses appendices anaux sont sombres. Il ressemble aussi \u00e0 Chalcostephia flavifrons<\/a> mais ses pt\u00e9rostigmas ne sont pas bicolores.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Il peut se contenter de mares temporaires, mais on le rencontre aussi sur les rivi\u00e8res, en milieu ouvert ou en for\u00eat.

L’aire de distribution de cet odonate tr\u00e8s commun s’\u00e9tend \u00e0 toute l’Afrique sub-saharienne.

Il re\u00e7oit les noms communs de African piedspot ou m\u00eame Common piedspot ce qui se r\u00e9f\u00e8re bien s\u00fbr \u00e0 son pt\u00e9rostigma bicolore.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Comme presque toujours pour les Libellulidae, les femelles sont tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rentes. Elles sont jaunes, n’ont pas de coloration m\u00e9tallique sur le front, mais une amusante bande noire juste en dessous. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Elles n’ont pas de ligne noire dans l’espace sous costal non plus, mais l’apex des ailes est tr\u00e8s sombre. La face dorsale de leur thorax est parcourue d’une bande claire qui se prolonge entre les ailes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Si toutes ces photos sont un peu tristes, c’est qu’il n’y a pas de soleil, et il fait… froid ! C’est une \u00e9norme surprise, car la veille, il faisait \u00e9pouvantablement chaud ! Tous ces odonates sont r\u00e9fugi\u00e9s sous le couvert des arbres pour les femelles, \u00e0 la limite pour les m\u00e2les, aucun n’est au bord de l’eau.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hemistigma des deux mots grec –hemi<\/em>, pour moiti\u00e9<\/em> et stigma<\/em> qui signifie –tatouage ou marque<\/em> et qui, pour les odonates, se r\u00e9f\u00e8re au pt\u00e9rostigmas qui sont \u00e0 moiti\u00e9 sombres, \u00e0 moiti\u00e9 clairs.
Albipunctum, du latin albus, –blanc<\/em> et punctum –point<\/em> qui se rapporte, selon Suhling & Martens (1) au pt\u00e9rostigmas. Si Rambur (2) mentionne en latin \u00ab\u00a0pterostigmate intus puncto albo\u00a0\u00bb, il \u00e9crit en fran\u00e7ais : \u00ab\u00a0T\u00eate ayant la face blanche, avec le front d’un bleu m\u00e9tallique verd\u00e2tre et un point blanc de chaque c\u00f4t\u00e9
chez le m\u00e2le\u00a0\u00bb. Cet \u00ab\u00a0albipunctum\u00a0\u00bb pourrait donc se rapporter aussi bien \u00e0 ces autres points blancs.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
