Pr\u00e9dation Gomphus vulgatissimus.

Le 25 avril 2024, j’esp\u00e9rais bien trouver un Pyrrhosoma nymphula, tr\u00e8s commun dans mon jardin ces jours-ci, pour tester un multiplicateur de focale r\u00e9cemment acquis. Aussi, j’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 bien satisfait de trouver ce Gomphus vulgatissimus pr\u00e8s de ma petite mare. Il n’est pourtant pas attir\u00e9 par ce trou d’eau, ce n’est pas son habitat ; il est jeune, fra\u00eechement \u00e9merg\u00e9 de la rivi\u00e8re, \u00e0 500 m de mon jardin et n’est venu l\u00e0 que pour trouver un endroit au soleil et \u00e0 l’abri du vent.
Il a malheureusement choisi de se poser sur des Orangers du Mexique (Choisya), jaune, sur fond jaune…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Les tipules sont nombreuses \u00e0 voler en ce moment, la pelouse renferme une impressionnante quantit\u00e9 de larves, mais celle-ci n’aura pas de descendance… Je n’ai pas assist\u00e9 \u00e0 la capture, mais j’ai vu le Gomphus se poser avec sa proie et en trois minutes l’insecte \u00e9tait aval\u00e9, il n’en restait que les ailes et les pattes qui doivent pr\u00e9senter un faible int\u00e9r\u00eat nutritif et sont toujours n\u00e9glig\u00e9es. Il s’est montr\u00e9 tr\u00e8s patient pendant la s\u00e9ance photo et j’ai pu m’approcher tr\u00e8s pr\u00e8s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Apr\u00e8s avoir fait mon content de photo, j’ai poursuivi mon exploration du jardin, m’attardant sur le pronotum d’un Ischnura elegans, celui-l\u00e0 issu de ma petite mare.
Je suis repass\u00e9 plus tard pr\u00e8s des Choisyas et comme j’ai aper\u00e7u mon Gomphus sur un autre arbuste, je me suis approch\u00e9. Il tenait encore les pattes d’une autre tipule qu’il avait d\u00e9vor\u00e9e en mon absence !<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On lit des chiffres tr\u00e8s vari\u00e9s sur la consommation des odonates en termes de poids d’insectes ; la moiti\u00e9 de leur poids par jour est souvent \u00e9voqu\u00e9, aussi, j’ai \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s int\u00e9ress\u00e9 par la lecture de cet article dans le Journal of Animal Ecology<\/em> (1).
Leurs calculs statistiques \u00e9tudient 4 esp\u00e8ces de zygopt\u00e8res ; chaque individu a consomm\u00e9 29 \u00e0 66% de son poids corporel en 2,1 \u00e0 4,7 jours. J’en tire la conclusion que la consommation ne d\u00e9passe jamais 31% (66% \/ 2.1) du poids corporel par jour, ce qui t\u00e9moigne tout de m\u00eame d’un bel app\u00e9tit.
Ainsi, Enallagma cyathigerum, le plus commun des odonates europ\u00e9ens, qui p\u00e8se 35.4 mg (2) pourrait consommer jusqu’\u00e0 11.5 mg d’insectes par jour. Combien cela repr\u00e9sente-t-il d’insectes ? Environ cinq moustiques, mais la plupart du temps, on observe les zygopt\u00e8res \u00ab\u00a0butiner\u00a0\u00bb des proies beaucoup plus petites sur les feuillages, des insectes que nous peinons \u00e0 voir \u00e0 l’\u0153il nu, dont le poids est bien en dessous du milligramme. Leur nombre doit donc \u00eatre nettement sup\u00e9rieur \u00e0 ces cinq proies quotidiennes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
