Neuraeschna harpya est un Aeshnidae spectaculaire pour ses yeux magnifiques, ses ailes \u00e0 la nervation tr\u00e8s dense (une caract\u00e9ristique des Neuraeschna), ses appendices anaux de forme singuli\u00e8re et son abdomen curieusement marqu\u00e9.
Martin (1) pr\u00e9cise que le sujet qu’il d\u00e9crit mesure 73 mm au total.

Le genre Neuraeschna (Hagen, 1867) comprend 15 esp\u00e8ces (3) et on le reconna\u00eet \u00e0 deux d\u00e9tails de la nervation, illustr\u00e9s ci-dessous ; la pr\u00e9sence de nervures transverses dans l’espace m\u00e9dian (ici 7), et le fait que la nervure sous-costale se prolonge au-del\u00e0 du nodus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Nous avons rencontr\u00e9 deux sujets, l’un, en for\u00eat, dans un milieu dense et sombre, l’autre a \u00e9t\u00e9 trouv\u00e9 mort (mais encore tr\u00e8s frais), dans le lodge de Tahuayo, ce qui a permis ces photos tr\u00e8s rapproch\u00e9es, ci-dessous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Curieusement marqu\u00e9 d’anneaux au tiers apical des segments, l’abdomen semble constitu\u00e9 de tr\u00e8s nombreuses parties, bien plus que les 10 standards<\/em> ! Cette sensation est d’autant plus forte que sur ce sujet vivant, ces anneaux sont tr\u00e8s peu color\u00e9s. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ils sont plus jaunes ou verts sur le sujet trouv\u00e9 mort.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’identification se fait gr\u00e2ce au \u00ab\u00a0T\u00a0\u00bb sur le front et aux marques thoraciques, en particulier ce \u00ab\u00a0L\u00a0\u00bb \u00e0 l’envers et surtout la marque brune dans laquelle s’ins\u00e8re une fine bande verte.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L’examen des appendices anaux, extr\u00eamement d\u00e9coup\u00e9s et quadrangulaires, confirme l’identification. Les appendices anaux des Neuraeschna sont toujours d\u00e9coup\u00e9s et spectaculaires, sp\u00e9cialement ceux de N. dentigera<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On rencontre Neuraeschna harpya dans les for\u00eats du bassin amazonien, de la Guyane Fran\u00e7aise au P\u00e9rou, et aux \u00e9tats amazoniens du Br\u00e9sil.

Ce sont des esp\u00e8ces cr\u00e9pusculaires, au vol erratique, habitant des zones bois\u00e9es et mar\u00e9cageuses.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u00c9tymologie
<\/span>Neuraeschna, <\/strong>du grec neura<\/em> pour –nerf<\/em> ou nervure <\/em>et de aeschna. <\/em>Aeschna est un cas particulier dans l\u2019\u00e9tymologie des noms d\u2019odonates. Il est ici \u00e9crit dans sa version\u00a0corrig\u00e9e, et on a, en Europe, l\u2019habitude de l\u2019\u00e9crire sans \u00ab\u00a0c\u00a0\u00bb, la version de Fabricius (1775) qui a cr\u00e9\u00e9 le nom de genre Aeshna.
On suppose, car il ne l\u2019a pas pr\u00e9cis\u00e9, que Fabricius a form\u00e9 ce nom depuis un mot grec signifiant\u00a0d\u00e9figurer<\/em>\u00a0ou\u00a0ternir<\/em>\u00a0(pourquoi, c\u2019est une autre \u00e9nigme ?) ; mais Fabricius est un puriste et on ne peut expliquer cette absence de \u00ab\u00a0c \u00a0\u00bb que par une erreur de transcription ou une erreur typographique.
L\u2019absence de ce \u00ab\u00a0c\u00a0\u00bb n\u2019est rest\u00e9e la norme que pour le genre Aeshna et tous les \u00ab\u00a0compos\u00e9s\u00a0\u00bb l\u2019ont int\u00e9gr\u00e9.
Neuraeschna insiste donc sur les sp\u00e9cificit\u00e9s de la nervation de cet Aeshnidae.
Harpya<\/strong> ; Martin ne donne aucune indication, mais on peut supposer un rapport avec Harpia harpyja, la Harpie f\u00e9roce, un oiseau iconique de la for\u00eat amazonienne par sa taille, sa puissance et sa f\u00e9rocit\u00e9 r\u00e9put\u00e9e. Je serais ravi d’avoir un autre avis sur cette \u00e9tymologie qui ne me satisfait pas vraiment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
