Les cas de pr\u00e9dation sur araign\u00e9e par odonate sont une chose peu commune, voire rare, en tout cas en Europe. Car en Am\u00e9rique Centrale et en Am\u00e9rique du Sud, les Pseudostigmatinae, une sous-famille des Coenagrionidae, de tr\u00e8s grands zygopt\u00e8res appel\u00e9s aussi Giants damselflies (Megaloprepus, Mecistogaster…), s’en sont fait une sp\u00e9cialit\u00e9, cueillant les araign\u00e9es (et parfois leurs proies) directement sur les toiles ou \u00e0 proximit\u00e9 imm\u00e9diate.
Je crois que je n’avais jamais vu ce spectacle (*), ni m\u00eame une photo de cette action, jusqu’\u00e0 ce message<\/a> de 2021, sur le forum du Monde des Insectes, montrant un Ischnura elegans d\u00e9vorant un Salticidae (?).

C’est au fond de mon jardin, \u00e0 25 m\u00e8tres de ma petite mare, dans un coin chaud et abrit\u00e9 du vent que j’ai l’habitude de trouver de jeunes sujets en maturation. C’est encore une fois une femelle dite \u00ab\u00a0melanotum sans rouge\u00a0\u00bb, car toute la face dorsale de son abdomen est compl\u00e8tement noire, ce qui est tr\u00e8s commun pour les sujets femelles qui \u00e9mergent chez moi, peut-\u00eatre une sur trois est-elle de ce type. Je ne sais bien s\u00fbr pas pourquoi.
J’ai aussit\u00f4t \u00e9t\u00e9 surpris par l’aspect inhabituel de la proie, je n’ai pas vu la capture, juste l’atterrissage de l’odonate.
La proie a \u00e9t\u00e9 identifi\u00e9e par Serense<\/em>, comme Zilla dioda, la Diodie t\u00eate de mort, sur la section Arachnides du forum du Monde des Insectes<\/a>.
On note que cette femelle Pyrrhosoma nymphula s’attaque d’abord au c\u00e9phalothorax, et sur la photo ci-dessous, une fois d\u00e9vor\u00e9e, ses restes sont abandonn\u00e9s avec les pattes encore attach\u00e9es, pattes sans doute d’un tr\u00e8s faible int\u00e9r\u00eat alimentaire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tr\u00e8s absorb\u00e9e par son repas et la d\u00e9gustation de cet app\u00e9tissant abdomen, elle m’a laiss\u00e9 approcher vraiment tout pr\u00e8s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Et quand l’occasion se pr\u00e9sente, on cherche toujours \u00e0 \u00eatre plus pr\u00e8s ; pour cette derni\u00e8re photo, mon objectif macro ne me permettait pas d’\u00eatre plus proche d’elle et de ses yeux fabuleux.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

J’ai tent\u00e9 de faire une recherche sur le Web concernant la pr\u00e9dation sur araign\u00e9e par odonate, mais les observations inverses sont beaucoup plus fr\u00e9quentes et parasitent la recherche.
Cependant, Rodolfo Novelo-Guti\u00e9rreza et Alonso Ram\u00edrez (1) ont observ\u00e9 un Telebasis filiola d\u00e9vorant un Tetragnathidae ; s’ils pr\u00e9cisent que ce type de pr\u00e9dation n’est apparemment pas rare (ils en ont tout de m\u00eame fait un article !), ils ajoutent que les donn\u00e9es sont anecdotiques et impliquent principalement des zygopt\u00e8res.
Ils ne citent qu’une dizaine d’observations dont 3 seulement en Europe : Pyrrhosoma nymphula (Sulzer) sur Mangora acalypha (Araneidae) et Coenagrion puella sur une faucheuse<\/em> (Opiliones : Phalangidae) (Hein & Kunz, 2008), Ischnura elegans (Vander L.) sur Araniella cucurbitina ou A. incospicua (Araneidae) (Grangier, 2000) (2). Ce dernier auteur d\u00e9crit \u00e9galement une pr\u00e9dation par Sympecma fusca sur un arachnide immature non identifi\u00e9, pourtant dans le m\u00eame document, mais non pris en compte par Rodolfo Novelo-Guti\u00e9rreza et Alonso Ram\u00edrez.
M\u00eame si quelques autres cas, dont 2 en Inde, ont \u00e9t\u00e9 rapport\u00e9s depuis 2013, on peut tout de m\u00eame dire que le comportement n’est pas commun.
Il est rapport\u00e9 quelques tr\u00e8s rares cas d’odonates voleurs<\/em> de proies prises dans des toiles, mais ce n’est pas r\u00e9ellement une surprise, compte tenu de leur opportunisme. En janvier 2026, j’ai publi\u00e9 \u00e0 ce sujet un article dans Martinia<\/a>, concernant Pseudagrion torridum<\/em>, en \u00c9thiopie, volant une proie sur une toile.

Je n’ai donc trouv\u00e9 que trois autres observations document\u00e9es en France de pr\u00e9dation sur araign\u00e9e par odonate, ce serait la quatri\u00e8me. Et la seconde en Europe pour Pyrrhosoma nymphula.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Quelques jours apr\u00e8s cette publication, mon ami Danois Erland Refling Nielsen m’a signal\u00e9 qu’il avait observ\u00e9 ce comportement pour C. pulchellum<\/a> en 2020 au Danemark et pour E. cyathigerum<\/a>, sans doute en Hollande, en 2019, sur des arachnides non identifi\u00e9es.
Je serais heureux de publier toutes autres donn\u00e9es que me proposerait un lecteur.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
